If that alternate ending became canon, then Disney would never get its hands on Lucasarts beside the sequel trilogy. Pretty much to end the saga by creating a time paradox in an obvious way.
Needless to say, The Mouse still owns Lucas no matter how the ending turns out.

Not much ever really done in regards to alternate universes. Some books and comics yah, mybe a single video game or two, but that was years ago. Way I look at it, the recent trilogy of films exist in an alternate dimension where htings suck ever worse. R. I. P. STAR WARS
