Given their level of technology, you'd think they would have already developed their own terraforming system similar to what Sobeck developed for Zero Dawn project.
If they just want Earth for themselves (aka, being descendants of 'rich/privileged people' - they'd inherit their distorted value systems) then it makes sense they would want a clean slate on Earth as a whole without having to contend with a pre-existing population (because they'd pretty much have to enslave/subdue them - which would be possible with their technology, but also time/resource intensive, so from their perspective, they might see 'Earth's extinction' as the easiest solution so they can just establish their own society on Earth too with 0 resistance.
I'm still on this episode (plus I don't have a PS - PC user here - so I'll have to wait until the game is released on PC to play through it myself.
I like how we're getting more into scifi territory with more advanced technology now in the story.
Though, one thing I would have asked GAIA is if she could come up with some improvements to the armor and weapons in her spare time which Aloy could apply on the workbench herself.

Well that explains a lot. Where the Extinction Signal that woke GAIA's subordinate functions up and made HADES self aware. And who those strangers were in the Proving Facility. Looks like there was a reason why this game began at the Far Zenith Launching Facility. That was a clever little easter egg, leading us on and making us think that the Far Zenith mission failed and didn't get to the Sirius System, when in actuality it did. But why? Why target Earth and GAIA's subordinate functions? What do they have to gain by destroying Earth and rebuilding it? They already have a perfectly functioning planet to call their own, so why come back to Earth?

I wonder if the 2 cores you gathered at the old carja watch tower and high up where the twilight order is would allow you to find the missing subordinate functions. If so, you need 1 more then right?

you should really consider using Penetrating arrows against heavy armored machines. That its weak against frost/shock/fire its good but once you apply it its good to switch back to penetrating arrows.
