Today, we sit down with Matt Workman of Cinematography Database to play Cine Tracer, a revolutionary pre-visualization and virtual set tool, and discuss the future of filmmaking. Is it possible to visualize your live action film inside of a video game? Using the Unreal Engine 4, Cine Tracer is a visualization tool for filmmakers, that can help them storyboard a film, design sets, and create lighting diagrams all inside a cinematic and realistic video game engine. In this demo we learn the basics of Cine Tracer, from building sets, to creating cinematic lighting setups using real world lighting tools in Unreal Engine 4

It's neat. If you want a cheaper way to play around with a similar process, play around with the Camera Mode in your favorite video games. A lot of games have them these days. If you have Grand Theft Auto 5 you have access to some half decent filmmaking tools when you incorporate basic mods like an ingame trainer. I personally used Assetto Corsa, a sim-racing game on PC to recreate McLaren's Under 7 Minutes video, promoting the McLaren P1 hypercar, by modifying some in-game camera files and using a screen cap program.

I wouldn't get to comfortable with the idea that AI/Robots wont be taking anyone's job in the film industry. There will be MANY jobs an AI will be able to do MUCH cheaper and with the same level of expertise as a skilled veteran. The ones that wont have to worry will be the ones who are truly innovative and creative. Anything that is taught in schools can be taught to an AI. Just saying.

This is going to change the future of Films! Wow, takes so much of the guesswork out of the equation! Not only will this save on big budgets but it could also be used to sell a film project by using the toll as a sales pitch to executives to show a scene almost exactly. Nice to see what Matt's been up too! Thx for sharing Ted

Pre-viz is literally my job! Glad to see people out there appreciating the time and effort we put in to scenes for the sake of our directors, especially considering very little of what we produce is seen by the larger audience.

Getting the graphics in the game.
Sony has the 3d scanning functionality which is quite a gimmick on the phone but for applications like this, getting textures, faces etc in. Cheap as F and even easier to create.

Very interesting video! I'm a film student at the moment and have some previous Cinema4D knowledge but this looks like a very intuitive UI. I think you definitely sold me on Cine Tracer

yo, I just got done with a live stream with the FXHOME team ( the creators of the free video editing software Hitfilm and they'd love to collab with y'all.

I've always said pre-production is where MOST of the work should go. This will make production easier, and post-production (theoretically) even easier.

Ok, I use UE4, Cinetracer is using a bunch of premade assets, it is clear that he hasn't made much of this 'game' and he's still charging $90! Ugh.

Thanks for watching us stumble through our let's play, I'm sure you guys will pick it up much faster! What would you design or previz in Cine Tracer?

There should be a version where your inventory starts empty and you buid it up with every gig you get. Like an actual game u know? just for fun

I'm already using this and I love it! It's been very instrumental in working out the shot of my next film. I highly recommend it!

The initial plan might have been to simulate scenes, but it could evolve to be a full-stack animator. Replacing maya etc.

On the next cheap vs expensive can you try LED light bulbs (Amazon/home improvement/ harbor freight/etc) vs LED video lights

Impressed. The community. The Quality. And ultimately the visualisation of planning ahead and exploring with minimal cost.

I don't think this is scary. I think it's revolutionary and I think it can get your film funded depending on )
