I think that form of punishment was brilliant! Mr. Russell couldn't spank or ground him at that age; it wouldn't resonated as much. Having him use two of his most precious possessions; the paintball gun that he SHOULD NOT have taken with him, used to destroy his car; was brilliant! After that, he had to drive around in his punishment and was I'm certain, quite embarrassed and never did anything foolish like that again! He and his friends could have been mistakenly shot by police for carrying what they may have perceived as a dangerous weapon or placed in jail.
