David Letterman on Jimmy Hosting the Oscars, Being in LA and Bono & The Edge Writing a Song for Him

Dave talks about Jimmy s parents being here at the show, Jimmy replacing all of the photos in the theater with pictures of Dave, Jimmy hosting the Oscars, the identity of Cocaine Bear, Tom Cruise not being there, Jimmy attending parties after hosting, making Bono & The Edge: A Sort of Homecoming, with Dave Letterman, being part of a sing-along at an Irish Pub, Bono and The Edge writing a song for him called The Forty Foot Man, spending time in Hollywood, and doing stand-up comedy. JD: Dave as a late night guest in LA. Still to this day, to me, the funniest most genuine moment in late night TV was when Johnny Carson stole Dave's pick-up truck and had it sitting on the stage behind the curtain while Johnny was explaining to Dave why he stole his pick-up truck. and then lifted the curtain. If you've never seen it. look it up.

Was so lucky to get to see most of Dave's first year of NBC 12: 30 late-night shows (in 1982, even though it meant staying up later than other students to watch it in the lobby of the dorm at the time. That year and the next 3 or 4 were what made Dave the G. O. A. T. A Film by My Dog Bob, Dropping Things, any thing with Larry Bud Melman in it. the list goes on. And to think Carson's people were worried about him stealing Johnny's bits! Instead he showed them to a a bit stale and set the model that Stephen, both Jimmies and everyone else follows. Hard to believe all that was 42 years ago.

Dave really set the bar for fantastic musical guests of all levels and genres. I always felt like he was a fan of each band on his stage. And every host of late night shows that's attempted to repeat that level has created so much joy for those of us who get to experience it on their shows.

David is speaking in code that is not so coded. However, you should take the blame for Will Smith's actions as well. A man is responsible for his actions but when your reality and reaction to it is different from the understanding or reality of another, don't expect empathy.

kimmel is very gracious here and it's a joy to watch in this cutthroat business that network television is. that said, the mount rushmore of late night are Carson Letterman Leno and Conan. maybe Kimmel might be the 5th.

Master of dry wit comedy, everytime I could run home in time and watch Late Night with David Letterman was a treat. cracking up after midnight, when my parents were trying to sleep. Paul Schaefer could be funny too

When Dave hosted the Oscars it was a kind of badge of honor for him that it didn't really work out. Same with Jon Stewart. Early Dave was also great with the anti-Hollywood bit, the feud with Joan Collins, etc.

I think Dave's hair is the only thing that has aged about him. His posture, his voice, his energy, his everything else, it doesn't look like he has aged a single day since he retired from the Late Show.

Glad to see he still has his marbles -- and, unfortunately, his ego -- but he should definitely lose that homeless-looking-man beard of his, as it does him no favors and only ages him.

My favorite David Letterman interview was when he was interviewing Barack Obama and watching Barack Obama turn the interview around, and he was interviewing David Letterman. It made me laugh.

Jimmy Kimel & David Letterman much love & respect, big, big, fan of you both. Men who are artist in their respective professions. Just straight up good buggers, USA gentleman of hosts shows.

I really loved Dave's interview show on Netflix. His style has changed from the Late Show, but I enjoy how much fun he's having. I still can't ever get over that beard every time I see him.

That rat's nest is such a distraction and has doubled the length of his face, very horsey. Take it off, take off 20 years. Bro don't have no neck no more. Let's go fund me Dave some clippers

It's true. When Bono and The Edge are making music, you do know that it's not just some song that you may hear somewhere. It's a whole damn album that will suddenly appear in your phone.
