The holiday spin-off to the Sega Saturn classic! Help two kids correct the bad decorating of their drunken elders by sucking up balls in the sky Theodore: I have this game; I got it as an extra in the old American gaming magazine Next Generation I recall, several months before I got my Sega Saturn (which was in Jan. 1997. I still make it a point to play it around Christmastime every year (yep, my first Saturn still plays great.
I recall there's various timed events in the game that will happen (like you'll get Hearts when played on Valentine's Day, or on April Fool's Day you'll play as Reala, but there's another one I recall that I read about many years ago, Where, if you set the system clock to some particular date in the future the sky and lighting will be more purplish; back then, it was referred to as the -Nuclear Winter- theme.

NiGHTS into dreams is my favorite game of all time, so of course Christmas NiGHTS holds a special place in my heart as well. It's probably my favorite pastime during the Christmas season, it feels great to unwind with a short session in the game.
One nice thing about the disc is that, while Claris' stage is basically just a reskinned version of the one from the game proper, Elliot's is mirrored and manages to still feel like something new. All around for what's honestly just a glorified demo (especially outside of the winter season where the aesthetic changes aren't in effect) it's got a lot of content buried within it. Heck it even has an april fools day bonus.

I love your videos and your collection. You've actually inspired me to start my own collection. I probably have almost 100 games now? I have 4 computers. 2 laptops and 2 desktops. I'm actually only 14 so the nostalgia for these games that I have would seem to be missing. The first game I ever played was Roller Coaster Tycoon, I dont know when, but I look back at that game and salivate over those graphics and isometricness. So, despite my age I still have nostalgia for this old stuffs. I'm going to make a twitter account so I can send you some pictures.

In my opinion, the NiGHTS series in general is greatly underrated and has been treated poorly even by SEGA themselves! I mean, come on! NiGHTS only has 3 titles and has appeared way more times in other games than his/her own! Especially in Sonic games. Just make another game already! GET ON WITH IT! But the new Rodea the Sky Soldier is kind of like NiGHTS. It's still made by NiGHTS' producer, Yuji Naka. Just with a gameplay mix of Sonic and third person shooting. But the game got some poor ratings. Dammit Naka.

It's worth mentioning that the re-release of NiGHTS for PS2/PS3/360/PC is a little -off. - It's the kind of thing that only crazy diehards would really notice or care about, but my understanding is it's not a port, it's a remake, so the controls end up being a little more stiff than they are on the original Sega Saturn version. If you're weird and obsessive about that kind of thing, then the Saturn version of NiGHTS is still the definitive one, even if the remake has prettier visuals.

Does anyone have any links to Christmasy sounding atmospheric or just general game theme tracks/soundtracks? I've been looking for such music to play pc games with but I just have not played enough pc games nor experienced enough beautiful music. -LGR you do a great job with the music you use for these videos, I wondered if you maybe have any links to good christmasy soundtracks? Thanks all

Great! I got the Saturn on Christmas Eve in 1996 and this game was bundled in Sweden as well, together with the -Sega Flash vol. 2-. Spent a lot of time with this in the beginning, as well as with the games on the demo disc (mostly Baku Baku Animal and Sega Rally. Really fun that it changes during the year and day =) Still have and use the Saturn!

If you want to know how to play a Japanese game on an American Saturn, or heck, any import games up to the PS3, check out the late JewWario's -Importing 101- on the JewWario Archives. This guide will teach you how to get games like Christmas Nights to work on an American Saturn system.

Had the copy of NiGHTS that came with the Saturn. For me this meant it came in a plastic sleeve and I had to go out and buy a blank CD to get a case for it!
Fantastic game though, and I need to track down Christmas NiGHTS at some point, loved the controller that was intended for it too.

LGR do you think you could do a top10 or something on games that implement such -seasonal- content thingy? according to the date things change? for some reason it seems really interesting of what kind of features in games we havent see because i never played it on certain date
