Honestly I was really surprised to hear people found this game -hard- because I actually beat the game the first 2 times and I was bored of how the events seemed to play out in the same way so on my third playthrough I deliberately went against the game's suggestions just to see how it'd be like to lose. And I never really found dysentery to be any more frequent than the other diseases or accidents in my playthroughs. It's a shame this is US-only, this looked really cool.

I think the version we used to play was 1980 or 1990s when i was a teen. My sibling and myself always had fun, we used to name people movie star names/character. like Cruella Devil, Tarzan, legless. -. I loved the music when a person got hurt something like -Dun ta da-. I once had two broken legs at the same time, and Tarzan died of dysentery, then we lost all our clothing and food while fording the river.

I like the card game, I'm also not really into card games so take that as you will. It's a brutal game of chance so as long as you're ok with enjoying some punishment it makes for a fun night. We finally made it to Oregon one time, which means 50 cards on the table without your whole party dying first. It was pretty thrilling to be on card 49 not knowing if you were going to make it.

Ecological implications aside, I'm fascinated by the idea that a bunch of unique pieces of hardware could come out over time loaded with one or more retro games. They've found the right mix of nostalgia, collectibility, and online marketing to make it happen. It's interesting to see physical hardware specifically designed with one or two games in mind.

I have this! I never played the original sadly, but I must say I love this. Be aware LGR though, that power button becomes touchy. Sometimes you try to turn off the thing, and it just restarts. Repeat 5 times until it finally shuts off and stays off. I love that it's on normal double AA batteries though. That's always bonus points from me.

My version was the 1992 -The Oregon Trail Deluxe. - For some reason it was labeled SS Oregon Trail?
Of course I was born in 2003, and it was just what my school had, and it was great, if we were mad at each other we would try to get our classmates killed. Fun times.

I'd guess it's a NES-on-a-chip as the Centipede and Q-bert units are, so they did a NES version of the game and stuck it in there. The looks of the graphics also hint at it. they are colorful, but not TOO colorful and don't use too complex color arrangements in one spot.

-You have died of dysentery- has got to be the one line everyone remembers that game by. And of course, it had to be on the front of the box too.
Maybe it's time that someone made a modern-day version of this but complete with graphics and such.

Compared to the original MSDOS game, this one is way too easy! Seriously, it kept raining throughout each of my trails, so my party always had good water. The only way to lose health is to have 0 pounds of food.
Still a cool toy, though.
