There terminator commentary is very tone deaf. It's the 80's and the music and dress fit the era; in essence, it's a time capsule. Sarah's comments were completely ignorant to the arc of the character. No one comes put of the womb like a baby rambo-it's something you learn. Also, when you look at the beginning of a person's journey and then the end of it, and you judge her beginning as unsuitable, you really cheapen and demean her journey throughout her ordeals in life. It's very innapropriate. Obviously, being a 20-something college student working a summer job, she isn't expected to know much about anything and have had no experience fighting for her life, so having a trained soldier carry her around and keep her safe makes perfect sense to the plot.
As for the Searchers, I've never seen the movie, but the blatant racism you showed was a white guy dressed as an Iroquois and a plot with a native American woman thinking she's married to a white guy, these aren't racist things. And as for his stating he'd kill his niece if she was defiled, etc. That goes in character with his portrayal of someone who has a strong hatred for an entire people for what he considers a great crime to him and his family. It doesn't make him look like a monster- it makes him Captain Nemo in the west, rather than at sea. Those two commentaries were very tone deaf.

Ethan was a man of his times, he also fought for the Confederacy which means he was no abolitionist, and remember the Indians were seen as no better than animals at that time meaning in Ethan's mind she had been defiled and disgraced, proverbial salt in his wounds on top of his only kin brutally massacred literally days after his return. No Ethan's quest for his Niece was never about her recovery but of vengeance and a continuation of a war he never really returned from, killing her was in his mind setting things right, putting her out of her Misery. Yes bad things were done in the past, but you only need to read of the horrific violence the Indians inflicted on each other as well as on those villainous white settlers to know that deep in your pathetic politically correct mind it took the Ethans's of this world to give you the luxurious lifestyle you so ungraciously enjoy by killing people who wanted to dictate otherwise. The film has aged, as it should, this is us at another time, and it shows true to what the characters of that time were like, sorry, it is your pathetic revisionist consensus driven take on this film that will not stand up to the ages.

You know, when I saw the first trailer for Terminator: Genisys, it made me not want to see it because the first thing that popped into my mind was that they were redoing the first Terminator but with Terminator 2s Sarah Connor already established. And though that was done because the image of her as a meek 19-year-old college student/waitress hiding under a desk from the killer robot from the future that can take down an entire police station full of armed cops by itself to get to her and needing to be protected by the homeless stalker she now believes is the soldier from the future that is trying to protect her from it that he claims to be just won't fly in this day and age. Never mind that this was one of the things that led her to become the same person that would pump shotgun shell after shotgun shell one armed into the massively upgraded replacement of that killer robot a decade later. Let's show the massive respect we have for this cinematic icon by massively disrespecting their path to becoming that icon and erasing it. Back then I thought I was paranoid, but this. Thanks for confirming my delusions as facts.

Hey, Looper. Regarding Sarah Connor: it's called a character arc. She represents us-the everyman or everywoman who is suddenly thrust into a fight or die situation. She has to adapt to the new situation and learn how to fight. Not to mention, which character winds up killing the T-800? Not Kyle Reese.
Regarding Ethan in The Searcher's. Ethan is a man who has lost everything. He is world-weary, bitter, and searching for a purpose. His search for his niece and his hatred for the Comanche are the only things that give him purpose. Once he returns Debbie home, he is displaced again and without purpose, giving us that iconic final frame. That's why Martin is such a good contrast to Ethan- he is young, hopeful, and compassionate. The Searchers is refreshing because it's not the classic John Wayne white hat versus black hat film; it's far more complex and realistic in its portrayal of how some people can lose themselves in grief and anger.

For Real? Ok enough people have gone to town on you over Terminator so I'm going into bat for Longtime Companion. All the reasons you gave for people not watching it are utter nonsesne. No streaming service has picked it up and the DVD is out of print so no one can actually watch it this day and age unless someone they know has it. That film doesn't need to have anymore meaning than being a story of that group at that time and what they went through. It is a very sad part of history they were retelling and they did an excellent job at the time. Had it been made now of course it would have been more inclusive but that's all the people making it at the time knew. This film became an important part of changing attitudes and laws so that the other stories could be told today.

Oh my god, Sarah Connor starting out as a week character is part of her CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT! Her role in T2 wouldn't be nearly as impressive if we didn't first see what she was like in the original film. Also of course music styles and stuff change. That doesn't make the movies inherently bad. This is an uninformed video made by someone with almost no understanding or respect for the history of film.
And while Holiday Inn has a horribly racist sequence, the movie, as a whole, is great which is why all of the reviews were positive. People reviewing movies understand that films are products of their time and realize that you don't throw a piece of historic art in the trash just because it has some problematic elements.

The topic is specifically about movies that got the 100% reviews that are less watchable now, with modern attitudes. Therefore, they are not out of line by mentioning such movies as Holiday Inn and The Searchers. These movies are great if you look at them as an example of how things were when they were filmed, but these days they can be painful to watch.
Looper was way off base about the Terminator, though. As many others have said, it's a character arc. She changes and grows as the movies progress. And she is not important just because she is John Connor's mother. She is important because she taught her son how to become the leader that humanity needs to survive.

I can agree with a bit of the commentary and it makes sense. Then other things are kinda lame. Then the terminator that's a huge no. I still watch it once in a while and love the film. I think the reviewer has no idea what they are talking about. Sarah Connor is one of the more empowering women in film along with Ripley from the aliens franchise. In the first films or story arcs they are scared of the unknown any same person man or woman would react in the same manner. I would panic and not k ow how to act. The effects are from the 80s and with a few exceptions still look great. And the story is what made this movie a classic.

You just can't help it can you. Youve just got to pander, grovel & crawl to the PC, LGBTXYZ crowd. The Holiday Inn was a film made of its time. Today Racism only exists because people keep SAYING it exists. Stop drawing people's attention to something that isn't even there. There's nothing offensive or wrong with The H. I. well there is now, because you've just made an issue of it. I knew coloured & black kids in the 70s and 80s who had Golliwogs as toys. Stop mischief making and creating issues that aren't there. To quote Jim Carey when are we going to get over the colour of our skin people, because it's all in your head
