we need to stop victimizing some of these artists since their deaths were their own fault and their own responsibility we need to stop putting our feelings aside and start being more logical! and this substance use disorder nonsense needs to come to a full stop! and as for the ones who died from eating disorders it's extremely tone-deaf to label their deaths as a tragedy since there are literal famines going on around the world! people just can't seem to handle the harsh truth! people would only use the they were fully grown adults making their own decisions only to defend age gap relationships which are feeding into all of this misogyny and purity culture that objectifies and demeans women but they'd constantly victimize people for their own problems! people should grow up and get their priorities straight! so what if these female artists were talented when it comes to their music that doesn't excuse their actions in any way! we need to learn to separate the art from the artist!

Yukiko Okada (August 22, 1967 - April 8, 1986)
After making her debut in 1984 and winning the Best New Artist award at the Japan Record Awards in 1985, Yukiko Okada was seen as the next rising star of the Japanese pop industry in the 1980s, often being touted as the next Seiko Matsude. Then on April 8, 1986, members of Okada's management found her with her wrist slashed and the apartment filled with gas. After she was treated of her wounds, her management discussed on how to handle the situation when Okada ran to the roof of the management's building and jumped to her death. It's unclear exactly why she took her own life, though there was speculation that she was having an affair with an actor who was twice her age.

Miho Nakayama (March 1, 1970 - December 6, 2024)
Since her debut in 1985, Miho Nakayama has been one of the biggest names in not only the Japanese pop scene, but also the country's film industry. Aside from selling multi-platinum albums and singles, Nakayama gained critical acclaim for her performance in the 1995 film Love Letter. During her 39th anniversary concert tour in 2024, Nakayama had to cancel her Christmas show in Osaka for health issues. Then on December 6, she was found dead in her home in Tokyo. It was announced by her management that her death was due to an accident while bathing. In 2025, a public memorial and a tribute concert were held for what was to be Nakayama's 40th anniversary.

Selena is a symbol of unity among Latinos. We are all united by our love for Selena Quintanilla and our hatred for Yolanda. In my opinion, no Hispanic child born after 1995 has been named Yolanda because we detest that name. The day Yolanda was denied parole was a victory for Latinos. Let her remain in prison where she belongs and pray that one night she’ll go to sleep and never wake up.

Yukiko Okada is the one of the most heartbreaking cases I’ve read about last year. For those of you who don't know who she is, she's a Japanese actress and singer who was popular in the 80s and died at the age of 18 by suicide. Same with Mia Zapata at the age of 27, though her situation was different as she was raped and murdered after a performance.

Sadly, Amy Winehouse dying young was not a surprise, she not only loved the likes of Billy Holiday she wanted to be her lifestyle and music career. As for Korean music stars passing away young. Follow the pattern and large number that seems to pass away before 40, there is a story there.

Many of these singers were responsible for their own deaths and it shouldn't count as tragic! personal responsibility is a thing! the only exceptions that do deserve sympathy are the ones who died from terminal illnesses car accidents plane crashes or murdered by toxic fans

Mia Zapata. The Gits were one of the original bands of Seattle's burgeoning grunge scene when she was raped and murdered in 1993. Her death went unsolved for over a decade before an arrest was finally made.

Ofra Haza was the voice of Jocheved, the mother of Aaron, Miriam, and Moses; in The Prince of Egypt. She sang the River Lullaby in the Deliver Us musical opening sequence. She had no speaking lines, only singing.

may they all rest in peace. it's horrible that a majority of these artists were suffering in private and the media did nothing but make fun of them for that instead of helping. they deserved so much better.

Could you really not be bothered to show a clip of Left Eye rapping Her 'Waterfalls' verse was iconic. Hers was the only voice on this list we didn't hear. So disappointing.

Rest in Peace to all of these female artists who might have had an unexpectedly short lifespan, but who certainly made an impact on many a generation. Gone, but never forgotten.

If you have a dream, DON’T let anyone take it away, and ALWAYS BELIEVE that the Impossible is Possible Selena Quintanilla, (Apr. 16, 1971 Mar. 31, 1995)

I would had add Kirsty MacColl, Brenda Fassie, Bessie Smith and possibly Shelby Starner, Trish Keenan or Simone Rainford.

I just realized last year what Minnie Riperton’s song Memory Lane is about. I can’t even listen to it the same way now.

Let's add Choi Sulli Jinri in this list as she was bullied to death by some of the misogynistic K-netizens attacked her.
