Rating: 4.0; Vote: 1
The best musical theatre duets are always worthy of a standing ovation. Were looking at the greatest theatre duets based on recognizability, the chemistry between the characters, and harmonies, while also highlighting the ways different types of songs can be effective. Quartets will not be considered, and the duet must have originated on the stage. MsMojo ranks the best musical theatre duets. Whats your favorite musical theatre duet?

I can think of 3 more and they are.
1. A Millon Dreams from The Greatest Showman
2. S O S from Mamma Mia 1
3. One Of Us from Mamm Mia 2
and 1 other which is not from a musical and it is called For The Dancing and The Dreaming from How-To Train Your Dragon 2 before Drogo attracts both Stoick and Valka to get married but if you look at Stoick's face he was annoyed with Goober interpreting Stoick's singing because it was meant for Stoick and Valka only but when Drogo attracts between Stoick and Valka decided to do something about it and both decided to save the dragons from Drogo and his bewilderbeast Valka had brought her bewilderbeast to battle Drogo's bewilderbeast which leads to Valka's bewilderbeast's defeat then Drogo takes control of Hiccup's Dragon Toothless to kill Hiccup but missed and it killed Stoick instead of Hiccup and both Hiccup and Valka were sad at this point and when Stoick dies Valka was single.

Not a movie but 'I want to Dance With You Pansy Faye (Nancy Barrett) and Quentin Collins (David Selby) was very classic. First horror soap opera 'Dark Shadows' unfortunately when Depp brought the rights to it, he ruined it. Classy ensemble cast but Depp had to be in every single scene as always and his portrayal as Barnabas Collins had none of the inner turmoil as portrayed by Jonathan Frid.
Sad. No one else can do any Dark Shadows because Depp owns it.

Well, you've left my favorite off! Sue Me from Guys and Dolls is at the top of my list. Miss Adelaide is fed up with her fiancee for more years than she wants to admit, Nathan Detroit. who is off to what appears to be yet another gambling event -- and she lets him have it with both barrels! All Nathan can do is play defense. The point/counterpoint duet is sensational. It's fun, playful and a little heartbreaking.

These Top Ten lists by Mojo are myopic. When Mojo says Of All Time, she means in her memory. Broadway has been around for over 100 years and talking pictures for over 90 years. Many of the best shows and movies came in the 30's and 40's. But that must be before Mojo's time.

The best singer for Annie Get Your Gun and Gypsy was the original star of the stage productions, Ethel Merman. No one could deliver a song like she could. She even got a cameo reprise of Rose's song in Airplane.

Uhhh. Bernadette and Patinkin's Move On duet excluded? Poignant, natural chemistry, emotional range, caps Sondheim's personally lived message to every misunderstood artist and every lost love. Stunning omission.

I believe that Seventeen from Heathers should have been on the list or at least into the honorable mentions because it's a beautiful moment between JD and Veronica just trying to go back to normal
reply

Whoa whoa whoa, don't get me wrong I LOVE the Confrontation. But if any duet deserves to be on this list from Les Mis it's A Little Fall of Rain. Period. That song wrecks me, every time.
reply

Suddenly Seymour should have been way higher! Such a good song and duet, i always wanted to play Audrey except i can't sing for toffee.
The rest of the songs ive never heard of.

Didnt not agree w/ you at all! So many different/better duets. Loved IF I LOVED YOU, and a few others. but Les Miserable had much more duets that are loved. Throw out RENT, Wizard of OZ,
reply

Wow, was this all over the place. There were several you missed and mis-sequenced, and some that should not have been in this list. Oh well, you can't argue with opinion.
reply

Ill cover you- Rent

Champagne- In the heights
Momma come outside- Hairspray
Dear theodosia- Hamilton

reply

If I Loved You, All I Ask of You, Tonight, are all the romantic that tug at my heart, which I admit I prefer,
then Anything You Can Do pops up and I smile.

reply

my duet
Summer Loving (the original movie) Idk if it counts cause other characters were singing but its still a good duet
Dead Girl Walking. HEAR ME OUT-

reply

Ok so this is before I have watched the video and if Dear Theodosia is not on here then. something is messed up.
Edit: :o how dare you!

reply

Soooo, when I first saw you (Dream girls) who will love me as I am & I will never leave you (side show) didn't even make honorable mention ummm, okay.
reply

Im pissed Heathers isnt on here. I know its not broadway but the title didnt say it had to be Broadway. Like dude we not gonna talk about Seventeen?
reply

Does west side story bug anyone else with the casting? Cause Tony looks just as Puerto Rican as Maria like i wish there was more of a contrast
reply

Picking out a single duet from The Phantom of the Opera is a near impossible task -- which is why TWO should be on this list change my mind.
reply

Something to Believe In from Newsies.
The Proposal/The Night was Alive from Titanic
Dirty Rotten Number from Dirty Rotten Scoundrels

reply

I agree with all of them but my favorite duets are Suddenly Seymour, All I Ask Of You, Take Me Or Leave Me and As Long As You Love Me.
reply

People will say were in Love from Oklahoma? Til there was you from the music man? That one was so good even the Beatles did a cover.
reply

do I love because you are beautiful? also from rodgers and hammersteins cinderella ten minutes ago both are beautifully romantic
reply

okay i am crushed that something to believe in from newsies is not on there Jeremy Jordan and kara Lindsay crushed that song
reply

I don't know if it's just on my mind but I laughed really hard on the thumbnail 'cause they were like having HAHAHAHAHAHAH
reply

See the fact that they sang it at the end prooooved it should've been #1 I'm really glad 16 going on 17 was there
reply

I known it's not the most popular, but I think Agony from Into the Woods should AT LEAST be an honorable mention.
reply

The fact that The Song that Goes Like This from Spamalot is not at least an honorable mention saddens me greatly!
reply

Suddenly Seymour being at number 10 was bad enough but to miss the actual point of All I Ask of You is criminal.
reply

Yall forgetting Something To Believe In from Newsies! I also wish a Hamilton song had made it on here, too
