Allegedly, Mary Wells was made to sing 'My Guy' many times during the recording of it until the producer was satisfied that she had attained the right amount of huskiness he required. Ever since discovering that, I've wondered whether that was a factor in Mary's throat cancer.

It might be too late to say, but Gary Brooker passed away from cancer in 19th February 2022 at the age of 76. He was the frontman of Procol Harum and produced a hit A whiter shade of Pale.
