To be a Christmas movie, the plot must revolve around Christmas. If the plot can work on any other holiday, the movie is not a Christmas movie. Die Hard can work on Halloween. Therefore Die Hard is not a Christmas movie. Gremlins however is BARELY a Christmas movie because Gizmo is a Christmas present to Billy. All the trouble caused in the town is because of a gift for Christmas. However, if the movie took place during Billy's birthday, that would stop the movie from being a Christmas movie. Hence the reason that Gremlins is BARELY a Christmas movie.

Now for me a Christmas movie needs to meet certain conditions in order to be considered a Christmas movie, it must feature elements of Christmas such as, gift exchange, Santa and or Christmas characters, the gathering of friends and family for drinks and or a meal, and children should have a role in the film as well, along with a moral/message to the story. Simply taking place on Christmas Eve/Day or featuring snow doesn t make it a Christmas movie.

Batman returns, Die Hard and Gremlins ARE CHRISTMAS MOVIES, gee whiz, do people know anything? just because they have dark content, violence, does not mean they ain't christmas movies, all happening during christmas, there's presents, christmas wishes, songs, decorations through out. DEFINITIVE CHRISTMAS movies.

Nobody even mentioned The Princess Bride. The kid is sick during the Christmas season when his grandfather comes to read him the story. Look out his bedroom window and you will see snow and Christmas lights on the houses, and he has some Christmas decorations in his bedroom.
