Actually, you poor dear, corsets where the enemy of the patriarchy, it was men themselves who demonized and released pathetic excuses for -research- on corsets being -of the devil! - Women have been making and wearing corsets/stays for centuries as a way to support the bust and back while allowing clothing to rest tightly and more fitted on the body, thus allowing fashion to flourish in a style everyone could wear despite their size (also women used padding all over to achieve the silhouette of the day, not -tight lacing-. No to mention -tight lacing- itself has always been scandalous, especially in history.
I-m not even a fashion historian, and yet I know more than a century old fashion company? One that happened to even exist during the time of corsetry! Pathetic, really.

The one good thing about this video is that it's made so many -common people- who aren't historians or historical costumers realize they know more about corset history than the editor of American Vogue. Hopefully it will inspire someone to create their own videos, write, sew, read more, and make them feel validated for the things they know.

Hahahahah this is insanely inaccurate. Basic googling will tell you that corsets were just underwear, not fashion. And that 'corset' is the modern term, so half the images they showed are of stays, not corsets. How can a fashion magazine be so bad at fashion history?
reply

Right off the bat, first image, first sentence, it is so clear that this video is horrendously biased and hasn't a clue what it's talking about. My corset is so comfortable. Is referring to cartoonish illustration what passes for research?
reply

WOW! this is so bad in so many ways. How can you be this misinformed as a fashion company? I am glad that at least your viewers are smarter than you. Vogue you should just take this video down and pretend this didn't happen.
reply

And here I was thinking Vogue and Hamish Bowles were authoritative figures in fashion. -facepalm-
P. S: Also, isn't his name spelt -Bowles- and not -Bowls- as in the description of this video?

Y'all are very lucky that dislike count is kept to yourselves. You could not have self-induced for more flack for an otherwise well-understood component of Western Fashion History.
reply

Man I really wish I could see the dislikes on this video! D-rn you YouTube! Because this video deserves to be downvoted! What an uneducated piece.

I-m so glad Vogue had a man explain this to us. My tiny lady brain is often easily confused about how I-m supposed to reshape my body fat.

Of all the hogwash in this video, I just want to point out one thing: I'd much rather be wearing a corset than diet and have surgery.
