Welcome to Alba, the world s capital of Alba white truffles - one of the most expensive ingredients in the world. Today we re going on a white truffle tour of Alba, we ll go on a truffle hunt, eat at one of the world s best truffle restaurants and then visit the International Alba White Truffle Fair. Let s go see why white truffles are so prized throughout the world! Truffle hunt - First we re going on a truffle hunt with Alba Royal Truffles - they are renowned for their authentic and some of the best white truffles. We were able to see the entire process of how Joe the dog works with the truffle hunter to find and harvest white and black truffles. Black truffles are above the surface whereas white truffles are a fungus that grows underground and can only be sniffed out by dogs. It was very educational to see. We also had our first taste of Alba white truffles with a few courses at the headquarters. Bovio Restaurant, La Morra, Italy - Next up we continued on to easily one of the world s best Italian food truffle restaurants serving Piedmont cuisine. We decided to buy our own white truffle - and we choose an 80 gram truffle for 400 Euros, after carefully choosing one. Then we ordered a bunch of different dishes, and shaved on th white truffle ourselves. It was a spectacular meal and more white truffles than I ver ever had in my life in one sitting.

I went for a cycling holiday to Alba, also for the food and wine. Just be careful, a lot of the restaurants will advertise truffle dishes shortly before truffle season starts. The truffles though are not local, fresh truffles but the won't tell you this and just charge the same. Always check with locals about the time and places to go to get the real deal.
Shame you went and barely discussed the amazing wine. In Piedmont, food and wine is completely linked.

Besides the white gold of the white truffles, there is even better gold than that.
The classic Belgian chicory.
Eat stewed or with your best mayonnaise or even tastier with a mustard vinaigrette.
If you want to surprise your visitors, make a mixture of shrimp with cocktail sauce. And place this on the end of the chicory leaves and then serve as an aperitif. Amazingly fresh and tasty and easily digestible.
Greetings from a Belgian.
Enjoy!

Guy at 20 min mark was like can you guys keep it down and act appropriately in a fine dining establishment. Running around with cameras and touching all the truffle pieces with bare hands is very bad etiquette. I'm surprised Mark wasn't more aware of his surroundings. And the two fat bald guys; have they ever heard of a collared shirt when dining upscale?

Never cared to smell truffle at restaurant, food either come with the truffle shaved on it, or the waiter/ess comes and quickly shave it on the food, but the smell Mark is describing is not smelt. Are we not getting the real deal or is it because they're not as fresh as the ones Mark is having?

I'd definitely be willing to try real truffle but the stuff you get at like chain restaurants truffle fries and foods like that, I can't stand. So, I don't know how different real truffle is from that stuff, but I suppose controversial opinion. I don't like the truffle most of us know.

I just checked out Bovio in La Morra and there is a message stating that they have closed! I feel so bummed. Getting ready for a year of travel and was going to make a detour specifically for this place. Please let me know what other amazing white truffle restaurants you would recommend!

Not my kind of ingredient! but interesting how people're willing to pay that much, is it marketing skills of italians or some bourgeois indulgence? Also so much German I heard in this video, italians do you pay this much to this ingredient? How often?

That must have been one of the most expensive days for you (if you had to pay regular prices.
It proves once again that nature is able to produce the most delicious foods that are so perfect no seasoning can top it only complement it.

Because idiots keep buying them. If everyone just stops then they have less worth then craping in your hand as a weapon. Most things are so expensive because to many idiots decide it is fancy and they can't live without it.

My bank account cries whenever I consider truffles, but my taste buds sing a Pavarotti opera. Quite a good sight to see this side of Italy. Too bad we mainly explored the touristy part on one of our TV show episode.

Loved this video for the dog, is Joe a Lagotto Romagnolo? Also I notice the theme of this film is Symbiotic relationships, Joe needs his owner, the truffles need the trees and the humans need the chefs. XpeaceX

OMG, That food is amazing. Truffles are so rare and expensive thanks for bringing us along,
Dogs are superior to pigs in finding truffles; the dogs either point or gently bring them to their master.
