In this video Im going to show you how we made a Fairy Castle as a Christmas Tree Decoration. We only used two standard insulation styrofoam sheets of 100x50x10 cm. You would need a hot wire CNC for this project. Step 1 Download the free vectors. You can find the files at the end of my instructable. Youll find a link to my instructable in the video description below. Make sure you understand the vectors before going into cutting. I made it very easy to understand, with colors, notes and everything. If you have any issues just comment and Ill be happy to help you. You have a top view of the walls, a top view of the roof, a front view of the castle and, below, all the cutting vectors youll need. I used a different color for each element so you can see how they need to be cut or glued. Step 2 Start cutting. First cut the vectors from the left. They will give you the raw blocks that you will later cut using the vectors on the right. Check the colors and dimensions twice before each cut. Step 3 Ok, the hard part is done. Now you need to glue everything together. Use hot glue for this part. make sure the glue is not too hot and melts the styrofoam. Use a leftover piece to check that its ok. Check the vectors constantly so you dont glue the wrong pieces. Whenever you have to glue a window push it gently to the inside about half a centimeter and glue it on the back. Dont glue the towers on the roof just yet. Step 4 Now that everything is in place notice that we dont have any roofs. Use thin sheets of xps or cardboard for the straight roofs of the castle. For the cylinder towers well make some paper cones. Make different types of cones and dont worry if they are not the same size or angle, they will look amazing. Place them on the cylinders and make sure they are straight. Mark them where they need to be cut by holding the marker still and rotating the tower. After cutting the base straight glue the cone to the tower checking again to be straight. Step 5 Paint the fairy castle in the desired colors. We used bright colors and glitter for ours but you can use any colors you like. For the glitter part you will need a spray bottle, water, wood glue (the one that becomes transparent when dry, a tea strainer and of course glitter (use translucent glitter if possible. Mix water with wood glue in a 8: 1 ratio and put the mixture in the spray bottle. You will spray the surface and using the strainer you will sift the glitter on the wet surface. Step 6 After you decorated your Christmas Tree, carefully place the fairy castle at the base and start arranging the towers on the roof. You can secure them in place using dressmaking pins. You can get a nice effect by playing with lights inside the castle. Please vote for my instructable in the Pattern Contest and Three Ingredient Challenge. Seriously amazing. I may try this next Christmas using heavy duty cardboard and supplies I have on hand and making my little window pieces and embellishments out of cardboard and clay; it will give me plenty of time to plan. Thank you for the wonderful tutorials. This is so cute around the tree and so inspirational, my brain immediately began thinking of ways to make this work.

What a magical idea for your little one. I saved cardboard boxes, shipping foam and egg crates. I am hoping I can cut up the cardboard for walls and roofs, then glue egg crates between a couple walls to make the walls thick enough to stand up for my niece. After watching this video again, it looks like I need paper towel tubes, too. Thank you for the inspiration!

You are so clever. It is amazing how you make this castle - but we cannot read all the different ways you are making this castle because it is toooo fast. We cannot even tell what or how you are putting things together. I would rather you go slower than so fast. Please. Does anyone agree with m? Thank you so much. Sheila

Thank you so much for your feedback. Yes I know how bored we get when explanations do not go quickly but I still want to be able to see what and how you are placing your craft together. Again, thank you. I found your castle very beautiful and so great to look at. Amazing. .Sheila

This is amazing and I love it. It's not exactly doable for regular people. Sorry but we can't afford a machine to cut out the Styrofoam so maybe you can post something that those of us with a fixed income can do? Love the idea though.
