Basil is one of the most popular but also easiest herbs to grow. With endless varieties, you can learn a LOT about gardening from growing this plant, practicing your pruning and propagation techniques, and growing absolutely MASSIVE basil bushes. SPONSOR: PROVEN WINNERS Proven Winners is the producer of Amazel Basil, a downy-mildew resistant basil that produces a ton of bushy, leafy growth. It's an awesome variety that I've really enjoyed having in my garden this summer

Great vid. I had no idea there were so many varieties of Basil. I have a question. I started Sweet Basil in the spring and it took off. literally as you know basil does. In a container with a very healthy soil good compost mixture and mulch layer on top. The basil grew to about 3 feet tall beautiful dark green leaves which I would pinch off and use, I would cut off any signs of bolting. This basil was on a heavy watering schedule and showed NO issues. Here the question. All of a sudden from the base of the basil the leaves started turning yellow and dropping off, within 2 to 5 days I had lost half of my gorgeous basil plant im not sure what it is what do you think? The plant lives in South East Georgia. I have been growing basil this way for over 10 years and never have had crop loss at this magnitude. I slowed my watering even though I don't think its a watering issue. I did inspect but didn't see any active bug infestation I did spread out the very large stalks and hose them down incase there was a bug or many bugs that I missed. Sweet basil is a stable in my garden/greenhouse and this has me stumped

I noticed you forgot to mention this. With sweet basils especially, I'm unsure if other basil types are affected by this, if you don't keep up with pruning it, the taller it gets, the lower portions of the stems grow woody and begin to loose their leafs, often without ever growing back on those wooded areas. Basically they become an ugly tree thing. It doesn't kill the plant, just. yeah, really, really ugly looking. I know because it happened to mine before I knew to be on top of the pruning. A small bit once a week is usually good, it just needs the top pruned to continue behaving.

My basil suddenly died a few days ago. It has had whiteflies for a little while which weren't too crazy, but definitely present. I hadn't changed the watering schedule, but one day it was looking limp, stem started browning and there seemed to be no saving it. It died within 24-48 hours. I'm not sure if it was an infection caused by the white flies, overwatering or underwatering and online sources haven't been much help

If my basil accidentally goes to seed pods. I like to cut off the seed stalks and put them in a glass bottle. I really pack it in then cover with red wine vinegar and put in a sunny window. After a few weeks or a month or two it tastes incredible. Great for mixing with olive oil and dipping bread or in salad dressing or on fish. Its a great way to use those seed pods.

I have more then one Basil plant growing together (2-3 seeds) they are already in the ground but do I need to separate them? The leaves are turning alittle yellow from the begining of the leaves by the stream, can't find anything on this. I have used alfalfa meal and espoma fertilizer. I'm also in zone 10b. Love your videos!

I need help with my mints. Its summer time now in Las Vegas and Im growing on a shaded balcony but both my mints stopped growing. Now they are just little stumps. But they dont want to come out of the ground. Im hoping once it cools off maybe it comes back. Im not sure if it bolted or not due to the heat.

I believe I have an African Blue Basil, totally love the pesto, I even use the soft tips of the young flowers.
Furthermore, you can make calming tea with the Basil, Lemon Grass and Mint with a dash of honey. Tip: do NOT drive after drinking the tea, you'll need a nap.

My absolute favorite is Mrs Burns Lemon Basil! Smells ahmaaazing and the bees LOVE the flowers. I plant them for the flowers and just to run my hands on them for the scent lol. This year I'm starting a new one for my husband who actually likes to eat basil.

How do I get my sweet basil to grow TALLER? I pruned my two most mature plants and they are super bushy but not nearly as tall as I assumed they would be. What is the normal height for a sweet basil? (the one that Bonnie brand sells at lowes.

I have a lot of Sweet and Thai basil germinating, just cleared out a new bed space for my sunflowers. Do think it would be a good idea to plant some to cover the rest of the bed under and between the sunflowers?
