Honestly, for the cost of a decent ice rod, why would they leave out a reel seat? I can get cheap full length rods with reel seats at walmart for less then what you pay for a quality ice rod. But they leave them off Ice rods? Maybe its because I'm new to ice fishing but ya. Wont be buying a rod with no reel seat.

I just use the bands, tape all you want I'll continue using the bands because they are faster and easier than taping and I don't like loose reels. To each his own I guess, but bands are the cheapest way, just buy the castration band tool. You'll thank me. I use double bands on each end. Never had a problem.

I just bought this rod in a 30 inch light model and it is great, but I am new to using light rods. What is the range of preferred lure weight? TUCR has a very helpful rod chart and I was wondering if St. Croix had something similar.

Masking tape is honestly the last type of base type I would use! The sticky residue that it leaves behind over time is a nightmare. Higher quality Painters tape or litho tape is better solution. Concept in general is very sound!

Great video thank you for the advice. We just started last year and all of the rods we got then had reel seats, looking at some without this year and I would have probably put about 30+ wraps on if I hadn't watched this!

A layer of that electrical tape sticky-side-out first works much better and it holds your reel in place while wrapping in onto the handle. Just cut it length first. No need for two tapes my friend.

Clam tape is pricey but it-s the best thing out there. It only sticks to itself and it cures to be super hard. If you want to move your reels it-s easy to slice off

I cant stand having to tape on my reel. For the price of ice rods, especially st. croix; I'd like that 10 dollar reel seat.
