The $2000 Dollar Linux Phone - Librem 5 USA - Chris Titus Tech Well isn't this interesting... a $2000 dollar Linux phone. Yeah, that is three zeros and I must say this phone... is different SeekNKnow: You're wrong....the niche market are privacy conscious America loving, freedom loving, preppers who have had enough of government spying on our day to day lives. Sure the same exact phone Librem 5 (non-USA) is a over a grand cheaper but the parts are made in another country some of whom are our sworn enemies. The only thing foreign made on the USA model is the case and that's just plastic which can be scanned for electronic devices embedded in it easily. There was one other part that was foreign made on that list but I forget what it was. Pretty sure it was a rather innocuous part as well. Just google -Preppers- and you'll find communities all over the US of people that are this serious about their privacy.

The phone is $800, you can get the same one for $2000 which is built, well assembled, entirely in the USA under some supervision. This is if you are a security target, as you mentioned, in a government or law enforcement role. It is often done, even by our own intelligence communities, to intercept devices destined to people of interest and add some surveillance features before delivery. You can be very certain that other countries do the same to us. Particularly where these things are typically made.

Does the USA have anything that the just 5 doesn't have?
By the way this project gave me many ideas.
I could buy a desktop sized CNC Mill (fully learn how to use it along with the cad/etc.)
And mix and match all the boards that worked together to my hearts content (or the publics desire) measure everything, buy a block of metal of choice and make the perfect case to hold it all.
If I was to do this... they wouldn't have a chance of staying in business!

Oh and to answer you-re question. I don-t care about the sticker price. All I care about is it having zero things made in China. I-m done with China products and it-s extremely hard to find anything made in America nowadays so, I-ll pay top dollar for anything made exclusively -Made in America- don-t care about price.

Absurd that you balked at the price and DIDNT MENTION the whole point of the -USA- model is to provide hardware components backed by supplychain security whuch ALSO run open-source firmware...
You just repeated how expensive it was for 5 minutes without any insight. Worthless video.

so can you use the one they for 700$ in the USA? Someone was saying saying the 2000$ was that price because it was put together almost like ,Custom , with the other ones more like made more factory style so to speak. If i'm thinking this all wrong please let me know, thanks

This entire video makes it sound like the phone is $2000 when it's not, it's $600 with a $2000 US option. I'm not going to say whether or not $600 is appropriate, but it's nowhere near the $2000 that's mentioned in the video.

Follow up from my previous comment about never having received a device. It's 2022 now, I ordered in 2018.... Still no communications on refund and no device in hand. This company remains a fraud.

Linux on dex was awesome. Samsung decided to take it away. I wish someone would develop a way to install a Linux VM on a android. I have tried all the programs that do it and they are a hassle
