Thanks, Chris. My existing Android phone is still working fine, but when it finally goes, the Pinephone or similar will be a real contender as a replacement. Hopefully by then it will be a bit more beyond the developer model and closer to being ready for prime time. :) As far as ad-blocking is concerned, these days it seems to take a multi-pronged approach. Too many sites have gotten wise to the adblockers that run in the browser and ask you to whitelist their page. What to do? At home, at least, all my network has to route DNS through a virtual machine that's running Pi hole. So the ads can run, as far as the browser is concerned, they just can't -phone home- to load the content. Works seamlessly on both the wired and wireless versions. After all, with a system running 96 GB of RAM, I have to do something with all that! So the VM runs in RAM, with plenty left over. Reduces overall traffic on the network, too.

just note about ads on android, from 9 is supports so-called -private DNS- feature, that allow to specify any DNS server that supports DNS-over-TLS, so use some of the provider with ad blocking or setup yown DoT server with.. don't know.. pihole maybe.. DNS block not so powerful and some ads still appears but it have no impact on how smooth browsing is or any CPU load/drain battery. Yeah and it's works in any apps also

How well do Qt Quick apps work on this hardware? Its would be cool to have some dedicated Linux mobile apps developed on it. Qt is crazy powerful, you can build all the OS interface on it (Tesla did for their car). I think we need to approach this as if it were an embedded device project and develop the interface and apps from scratch rather than port the desktop apps. Leave the desktop apps for when you are docked.

So, if it's like a desktop, and the phone has a USB C, does that mean that you can use a USB C keyboard with it?? That's not something you can do with phone nowadays, not even tablets. Maybe you can even use a keyboard via bluetooth? That would be awesome.

you just did everything you can do on android. how is windows and android locked systems what do you mean by that I have used Linux windows and android and they do the same thing. that phone just looked like android with out a app store

Hey Chris, how does this work when you connect a USB c dock to it and run it like a desktop? It's be amazing if they come out with a flagship phone when it's all said and done and it can work like a go anywhere Linux machine.

I don't like being tracked. Ads as long as they aren't abusive, and in my face I don't mind. I use Privacy Badger and have find tuned it (work in progress) for this very reason. Just block the naughty ones. -
