PC Gaming Setups for Windows and Linux - Chris Titus Tech What is the perfect setup for PC Gaming on the software side? Windows? Linux? or Both? Let's explore all the possibilities Zanzi97: I've been using Vfio for about 2 years. My current System Is a ryzen 1700 -3.9, an x470 crosshair 7 hero, 32gb ddr4 -3200mhz cl16, an old GTX 560 1gb for Manjaro, a Vega 56 (for Windows and Mac Os vms) and an evga G2 850. Overall System performances are great, even into the Windows 10 gaming VM. The only little concern i have is that i want a better gpu for Linux, like a used GTX 1070, just to try games in it and use all the advantages that come from a more serious gpu, not only performances, but apis like vulkan for emulators like rpcs3...al things that i can still do into Windows 10 cm, but...

I think SR-IOV would be the perfect setup for me, normal vfio is not really good option because i want to be able to use my faster gpu on linux as well while im not using windows, and that requires restarting often, or i would need 2 decent gpus instead of 1 good + 1 slow that i tested. So because of that i gave up on vfio for now and im just dual booting.

What I would like to figure out is a way to be able to share your steam library between windows and Linux so that you can have something like a NAS and not have to download them to each separate system or have not to download updates Everytime you launch steam on windows or Linux if you do share the folder

Do you have a suggestion for which distro to start with for linux? I have been out of the windows game for 10 years...been using Mac but got back into gaming and I kinda hate windows. I just got a 3080 with a C9 for gaming but worried about switching to linux. This would be my first dip in.

I've seen a single GPU Passthrough (which, to say it easily, kills the driver on linux, passing it to the vm and viceversa). I want to try it but the info is limited and I'm a bit scared to screw everything up hahaha, do you have any advice? have you tryed it? Great video btw!

Thanks Chris!! I-m thinking about building my own pc with similar specs. I-m gonna be playing games on Linux. Because I don-t play any easy anti cheat games period. Amd I-ve heard is much better with Linux gaming which is the way I-m gonna go. Thanks for another amazing video

I'm happy that I could finally, make a VM with KVM QEMU with a single GPU passthrough. It took me 3-4 days to get it working, and I learned how to install Arch in the process.
Now to see how much I hold to this setup, Arch Linux as main OS and Windows 10 for Windows stuff.

Do you segment your gaming PCs to another part of your network? On the Linux gaming PC, what other tasks do you perform other than gaming? I've heard one way from some people for security, but I find limiting what games I can play and what I can do.

SR-IOV would be amazing, I can see myself using finally using Linux on my laptop and not having to worry about not being able to play some games (I play a lot of stuff on Game Pass so I really can't use Linux as my only system)
