I like these terminal music players, I use Cmus, the only problem I found with it (and a big one for me) is the main view (1) group the music according to artist tag and that's ok but it would be nice that you can modify it to sort and mainly group the music according to albums itself. This is a huge downside for me because I like to listen to OST's (anime, videogames) and as you know OST's generally have multiple artists in it so when I want to listen some of these albums I have to create a playlist and regroup all the tracks in it.

So now everyone go and read that man page. :-) Moc can run as a server and the interface can detach and reattach later. It also accepts all kind of controls on the go from terminal/script. Both are super useful, possibilities are endless.
E.g., here is my -musicflow- script:
0) prepares music folder: sshfs if I'm on the small machine, or encfs if I'm at work ;-)
1) reads first line of randomised album list and starts playing that album with option -Next- (mocp -o n

Great topic. I've been using cmus until now, wonderful music player I have installed on my phone as well (using Termux). On my laptop, I am currently configuring Music Player Daemon to work with ncmpcpp. I think I'm getting close to making it work. Though it appears that volume control is not available, despite having pavucontrol installed. But I'm sure I will find a solution to that as well.
Terminal applications are so incredibly powerful and versatile, I love it -

Having trouble setting this up - my changes in config aren't taking - i moved stuff around like you said. your instructions regarding mocicon were too vague. I got playlists to play, though, and that was the most important part. The instructions on their website suck and there is no way to join their forum. The pause, play, mute/volume buttons on my keyboard work for MOC, but the forward and backward don't (not sure they work with other music players, though).

Great, I was having bad time fixing errors of mpd and ncmpcppppp. It constantly refusing connection and wildmid and so so pluggins not found even though they were installed and when I see mpd github issues for that mpd devs were just throwing rude replys and being douchbags and no fixes. So everything was sucking, I was in dire need for mpd alternative and I found this video thanks a lot.

You can also play music and also videos with VLC by calling it with the cli ncurses interface by typing nvlc (easiest way of opening a video is by also adding the path to a video and use the shortcuts you already know from there).
Its also minimalist and it's VLC, few people don't like it and few people know it can run just from the terminal.

Is there a way to level the output sent to your speakers via a free software? Playlists on YT f.e. often have a great variety in volume, has anyone an idea for me? (of course im a linux user)

You know if you're using qtile, there are built in widgets for MOC, you don't need Mocicon.
Also if you like simple cli programs, checkout pianobar, the light weight pandora player.

has anyone been able to get internet radio stations to stream using this application. I'm having a tough time finding any documentation on it.
