sxiv in scripts is pretty handy. I have one that sorts my screenshots directory from newest to oldest, pipes it into sxiv, then I can mark a picture and quit and have it use curl to upload to a site and then put the url on my clipboard.
You can also take advantage of the output option in a more simple and manual way by just marking a bunch of images from a directory that you want to do something with, then they're all printed in your terminal and you can copy/paste them into a command to delete them or whatever else.
Also, fyi the marks also show in the form of an asterisk next to the image number at the bottom so you don't have to look at the tiny box up top to see something happened.

Hey DT, I've recently got my mpv(A really lightweight bloat-free, cross platform, free as in freedom, fully customizable media player) set up working with custom keybindings, additional scripts for thumbnails, auto-loading playlists as well as additional shaders for up-scaling, sharpening videos in real time.
But there was no good video explaining how to configure it and use user scripts.
I think you would do a great job featuring the mpv player and showing off its configuration options.
By the way love your videos keep it up

Apart from the fact that I tend to just view images in Emacs, I've used feh for many years. I don't really have any requirements beyond it and it has a funny name (fe means sh-t in the Ga language, so I get strange looks when asked which image viewer I use). Back in the days when I was on i3/fvwm/openbox/enlightenment, feh was also my tool for setting the root window. Nowadays I use Sway, which has it's own root window setter.

Thanks DT, this was very helpful. I now piped it into nitrogen, set ranger to use sxiv -b (no - - or ' ' , just plain old sxiv - -$--) (cause who needs borders) and even made a script which I put into awesome wm as a keybinding. Now, I just press super + w, cycle through my wallpapers and choose one by pressing m. Than q for quit and ta daaaa, the wallpaper is set. Lovely.

I don't mind additional functionality in an image viewer, if it's functions I'll use. In Windoze, I use IrfanView, which doesn't have a -nux port, but I'm always on the lookout for something similar. ImageMagick is one I see a lot in -nux distros, it seems fine. GIMP is just overkill, I usually uninstall it, frankly.

To me one of the best features is auto reloading changed images. Many more bloated viewers don't even have it. I use inotifywait to automatically recompile plantuml files on change and sxiv to display the image. Any time I save the plantuml file, I see the result quickly on the sxiv instance.

I use sxiv all the time but once i compared it to eog (eye of gnome) image viewer and weirdly the photos in sxiv were less sharp and less saturated, idk why. It only happens when I'm not viewing high quality photos like pics captured by phone

Nice one, but I expect my image viewer being able to: read all file formats including RAW images (like Nikon NEF, etc.), print images, etc. So, XnViewMP works fine for me. Maybe it is large, but it is -all in one- solution.

Does anyone know of such a minimal image viewer where you can specify an icc color profile? Image viewers that don't support color profiles are basically useless to me because I am doing a lot of graphical work.
