Ethical- Software Threatens Free And Open Source Software DistroTube One of the biggest character flaws that I see in many people is the compulsion that some have to change others. And these types of people are around us. They have even started infiltrating the free and open source software movements

It's all this -ethical- nonsense which drove me away from volunteering on the more boring but clearly important aspects of free software. Why? It used to be a voluntary job one could take pride in, where users would take you for granted but you'd have a good chance to meet up with well-respected peers and make the effort seem personally worthwhile.
I mean things like:
- Packaging old libraries (whether maintained or not) to keep long term support for old applications going on new, up-to-date distributions
- Making convenient packages for key Windows-only free software by linking against winelib, so that people don't lose out by switching
- Writing security policies to securely sandbox old, unmaintained applications so that security risks are minimised either way
No -ethical- software supporter is going to cheer this kind of effort on. They're going to me suck CoC all day and keep moving the goalposts on what is/isn't acceptable behaviour, when, quite frankly, their political motives have nothing to do with my calling in life. These people seem to want too add EULAs to govern interpersonal relations, rather than the institution of share and share-alike licensing. In stark contrast, when I met Richard Stallman for a guest lecture in Cambridge, I'd found a very humble and principled man who doesn't judge people but instead tries to save them from shooting themselves in the foot with humour and grace.
The problem is that these politicians have already begun infiltrating key projects, this mess all started with the Contributor Covenant and has been escalating ever since.

If I see the first movement that is both hyped in the media and is factually ethical, then I will consider taking these hyped movements seriously. What they do is press your buttons, and that is all there is to their case. Cooperating with this leaves you lost before you start.
One of the two from Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream, on a radio show, dumped a huge amount of ball bearings over the microphone, representing the coverage of existing nuclear weapons which is overkill above covering the entire world. (One ball bearing equals one covering of the world). That was a way of pushing people's buttons. Case closed. Obviously USA billionaire capitalists are hell-bent on nuking the entire world thousands of times over so they can make more money. But Ben and/or Jerry will protect us with ice cream that is only exorbitantly many times the price of normal ice cream.
I have never tasted Ben and Jerry's ice cream. I'm sure it is OK. I am happy with ice cream that is normally priced, or only double. But the USA missiles targeted missiles on another content aimed at the free world. Getting missiles within miles of something on another content is expected to fail most of time. Anti-ballistic missiles are expected to take out most of those that get close. So multiple missiles with multiple warheads, each warhead of colossal power, are required in the hope of cutting down the attack from the USSR significantly. The whole world was not targeted by the USA nukes.
That's why Ben or Jerry took the approach of dumping ball bearings on the microphone. Button-pushing emotions.

I got a question that's been bugging me for ages and I hope you can answer it for me, So is there a Linux distro where one can tell the installer what hardware they are using and it installs a distro tailored to that specific system, for example, I am using Linux Mint 20 Cinnamon at the moment and it downloads updates for hardware I ain't got and for software packages that I don't use.
How can I get a distro that is more specific to my hardware and software? thanks for all the great videos keep um coming.
Free comes before Ethical if ethical changes free then it's not ethical by definition. Q.E.D.
I am not trying to change the world per se but I am trying to show a better world that a lot of people just can't see because of oppression and minimalization.
Ethical is not a dirty word but it is a word that for the most part, the world is ignorant of its real meaning, hence there is a lot of miss-use.
of the word and it's gotten to be used in the wrong context.
We are on the dawn of Ethical and I hope and pray that the young one's coming up will grasp the real deal with ethical because the world at large does not yet understand ethical.
that's me and my rant over thanks.

Hey Distrohuggers, please don't be distracted and diminished by the fake world news about non-linux issues. Fedora has created a new repo for its futuristic release, Version 35, which will come out around Thanksgiving. That means several things: One is that the Beta version of Version 34 is eminent. And two, lots of work will go into 35 in the coming 10 months to make it better than 34, 33, 32, etc. I know you might can say the same thing about other distros, but Fedora tries to lead the way with bug fixes, and testing new software. They are usually way ahead on systemd, if you are a fan of systemd. Install Rawhide on hardware and live in it, and you will be surprised at how often it updates. From here on out, packages in their fc34 directory will be rebuilt and possibly tweaked and put in the fc35 directory. I will suggest Gnome, or maybe KDE, as the other environments do not get the same attention or love, but they do offer the latest versions of Xfce and LXQt. Enjoy !

Derek, you always speak from your heart. I love something about the truth if it is really an acceptable truth. I completely stand by your side because of the neutral opinions you put before us.
The ethical software movement is itself very unethical in nature.
-Be the change that you wish to see in the world.-
- Gandhi
Sometimes I find Gandhian Ideology is in direct conflict with my way of thinking. In many instances, I strongly disagree with Gandhi, but I admire him for his cool minded strategies. Although I'm not a Gandhi fan, I must admit that he was a clever strategist whose strategy worked in many places of the world. It's still working. That's just peaceful politics. The fire should first burn me. I need to be the first one. Right? It's silly to impose something on others, especially, not with an intention to change them, rather, for punishing people for a disagreement.

Maybe -ethical software- is ethical in some way or not, idc. But it has nothing to do with Free Software, not just because it violates the Free Software laws, but because it uses copyright for something other than circumventing copyright itself.
The whole point of Free Software and of Open Source is to circumvent the copyright that should not exist in the first place. Copyright is used to stop people from using stuff. Free Software licenses use copyright to circumvent that very copyright-to stop the copyright holder from having any exclusive rights on the software.
Ethical Software, in contrast, uses copyright to stop people from using stuff, the point here being not that they want to stop people from using stuff, but that they use copyright for it.
_It was said that you would destroy the copyright, not use it!_

Ethical from unethical sources , you have not seen anything yet ! research the Great Reset, b i g te ch seeks to d es t roy any that do not ag re e with them , just as theygo after any one that supports the former president , their slogan is You will own nothing , and you will love it .....you will be forced to be dependent on the go ve rn ment ......kill good paying jobs , close down schools defund the good guys ....this goes far beyond software .....digital money is replacing cash and all transaction will be tracked , soon vax with magnets within , with luciferase that can be detected by by light and cell phone ,it is all about tracking p e o p l e , it is easy for them to control devs that sell their wares but not as easy to control those that give it for free , so now they seek to devour those that give for free

I dont really get your issue with it. If you have a problem with the specific individuals behind the recent movement thats fine - I dont know them. But I don't get why everyone thinks they are the only ones that have to bear the consequenses for their actions. Although some might dislike that, we do still live in a society. Therefore if I write code I obviously dont want you to use it to harm me - duh. Thats the same very principle, why the GPL3 enforces you to release forks under a similar license. What some people seem to not get. Freedom is actually infinitely available. Its always a compromise. You dont have the freedom to shoot people you just dont like in the street, but therefore you gain the freedom to go out without having to worry about getting shot... (admittedly not the best example in the us...)

That is.. really, you are so right about the basic idea that free software is like a road, that can be used by a nice guy or by a killer. It is a good thing that there is a road, right? And I'm happy that you speak out. But then there is a lot of unrelated stuff, which is not very well thought over.
Just one thing (there are many more). You are NOT in full control of your actions and of your opinions! Advertisement - do I need to say more?
Or the 'Zeitgeist'. Do you really think that a Chinese person from the Konfuzius era would think the same thoughts that you think? Would you believe that a 7 year old DT made the same decisions as a 47 years old DT?

I don't agree with all the statements made in this video, namely -if you are trying to fundamentally change the world then you're wasting your time-
I don't think that's true, take the FOSS movement as a perfect example. We're trying to put liberty back into software, that sounds like a fundamental change to me. Now, I agree that you can't force things on people (cough, cough - the left), but that's not to say that trying to change hearts and minds is a wasted effort. I'm certain that every influential figure for the good of humanity (excluding my comments in parenthesis) would agree with me on this. Anyway, have a nice day DT.
