Watching this video got me to try out Siduction Cinnamon. Been using it most of the time for the last couple of weeks. Very nice, and very stable, to be considered unstable. I also tired straight Debian 10.8 and changed to the sid repos. Getting Debian to act the way I want it to took hours and hours, and I got stuck trying to get VirtualBox installed on it. Siduction is pretty much ready for my methods out of the box. The Siduction team seems to be hard at work on it. The kernel has upgraded at least 6 or 7 times over the last 2 weeks, now running 5.11.6-2. I'm guessing that the reason there was no new release for 3 years is because being a rolling distro, it wasn't really necessary.

if you want to run multiple commands as sudo, it's better to do -sudo sh -c -apt update && apt upgrade-- that way if the first command takes more than 5 minutes you don't need to re-enter your password. In the case of -apt update- it probably won't take that long, but if the user in question changes the sudo timeout enough (or outright disables it), or if there are enough repositories on a slow connection, it could be helpful.
If a user is used to kernel live-patching being enabled, they may not think about restarting for a kernel upgrade (though it's not that common in distros like that yet).

Since I got into Linux (June / July of 2018) and since I started watching your videos (around the same time) I have loved Debian. To this day it is my favorite distro, I prefer Debian over Arch. With Arch you have but one option, unstable. With Debian you can choose from Stable, Testing (what I use), and Unstable. If you want stable, but more up to date packages, you can use backports. You can limit yourself to FOSS software only, or allow proprietary software to be installed as well. That flexibility is what I -love- about Debian.

Long time siduction user here (it's spelt with lower case -s-). Nice introduction and I agree it has a lot of applications OOTB. There is also a base -Xorg- version which installs no applications, on which I recommend installing the minimal -kde-plasma-desktop- and just add what you want.
Spotted a couple of minor inaccuracies in your report, but one glaring one is that Digikam is not a webcam application but an excellent digital photo manager and editor, possibly the best native one available for Linux. Check it out!

Hey DT, would you think about making a video where you go for a week without using the terminal? My friends that use Windows say -windows is easier, linux is all coding and stuff- (exact quote), but I really don't see their point at all. Anyways, a video about a -professional linux user- didn't use terminal for a week, would be interesting (and it would help my point alot)

I have been using Siduction for many years now and before that Aptosid. Occasionally, I like to try another distro, but always return to Siduction. The support team is excellent, just go to the forum. I think the slow loading of GIMP was due to its setting up its initial files. Subsequent loading should be quicker. One of the reasons I like Siduction is its fast.

Why do you care about rolling-release? If you were a gnome user it would make a lot more sense. The tiling-wm don't benefit at all and IF there was a kernel upgrade that made a difference on your hardware then there is bleeding edge kernel options in debian stable too.
The only way to go is debian netinstall and then make it your own, same as arch but better.

Interesting. I'm on Windows for the time being but with a new desktop on the way from Fingerhut I should totally put a Linux distro on this laptop simply because I learned a lot the last time I had ubuntu on my main box, and now I want to learn even more! ;p

I recently moved to Windows after some time on Linux (Ubuntu then Arch). Its just I have a new setup with a widescreen connected to my laptop and it has been pretty frustrating with Linux. I really wanna get back but something's just stopping me..
