How to Install Chrome OS Flex: Make an Old PC New Again - Kevin Stratvert learn how to install Google Chrome OS Flex on your old laptop or desktop PC. Flex is a distribution of Chrome OS that can be installed on conventional PC hardware to replace other operating systems such as Windows. It's a Linux based operating system that uses a web browser as its main user interface. Since most of the applications are web based, it works really well even on older computers. - Additional resources - Differences between Chrome OS and Flex: https://support.google.com/chromeosflex/answer/11542901?hl=en - Chromebook Recovery Utility: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/chromebook-recovery-utili/pocpnlppkickgojjlmhdmidojbmbodfm - Official Installation Guide: https://support.google.com/chromeosflex/answer/11552529?p=flex_ent_form_install&_ga=2.39032804.65114826.1645729593-1785878442.1645729593&visit_id=637813269276744524-4049513527&rd=1

For the install, you have two options: (1) You can -Try it out first-, which allows you to evaluate Chrome OS Flex. This does not affect your existing operating system or files. (2) You can also install CloudReady, which installs Chrome OS Flex. This will erase any existing files and operating system on your hard drive. If you decide to install, make sure that you have backed up any critical files that you want to keep.

Great video of a useful invention. Tried it out immediately on my 2010 Macbook, which meets the Chrome OS Flex specs. However, after installation the Chrome splash screen hangs. Therefore, I would be cautious about jumping in now. -Kevin - Might be worth emphasising a bit more that this software is really in its infancy and what developer mode actually means.

Hey Kevin ... really enjoy all your videos, but have a question about this one. I got the Chrome OS Flex on my USB stick, and installed successfully on two Dell Latitude laptops. Everything seemed to go well, but after the installation and restart, all I see on the screen is the Google Chrome Logo. Did I miss something?

I have tried this several times on two different old computers and I never get past creating a USB installer. All it does is partition my flash drive and make the flash drive useless. This looks SO easy and I'm not computer illiterate (or at least I didn't think I was), but for some reason, it just doesn't work for me.

At my school, I am one of their IT guys considering to try Chrome OS Flex for the school laptops because they are very old (+-2013) and they run Windows, which makes them pretty slow.

The only issue on my Acer Aspire es1-533 the trackpad still works when all options are off. They need to fix that. I hate trackpads and use a normal mouse.
