/e/ Phone Review: Out-of-the-Box Privacy? - Techlore The /e/ foundation aims to offer out-of-the-box security and privacy competing directly against Google's Android and Apple's iOS. Does it compete? Is it secure? Is it private? Is their ecosystem good? Find out in this video review! /e/ Website: Graphene Video: /e/ and Lineage Security Issues

Would you recommend this to someone who is not a developer and has only ever had very basic experience using linux? I want to break away from the tracking and big tech world, and privacy is my main concern. I thought about trying my hand at installing Ubuntu or LineageOS on my phone, but I have never done anything like this, so I was going to buy another phone to experiment on or use as a backup. But if I'm going to buy a new phone, maybe I ought to just get this and save myself the time. I'm not a power user by any means, I just want a functional smartphone that can run basic apps.

-QUICK CLARIFICATIONS about /e/ OS-
-If you don't like the feel of the stock apps or launcher, install an alternative! Even just on the F-Droid store, there are lots of open-source alternatives for just about every app you'd want to use.
-Their app store is just a mirror of the play store.
-/e/ updates their ROMs to match newer versions of Android! Coming from Android 10, this is great to know.
I'm attracted to the free e/ account service, and might set that up to replace google. Another free Nextcloud provider might be better though. We shall see!
Great video!

If he trusts Google and Android, then he has been programmer to be an Android too. As far as a Notepad goes, Android doesn't impress me either. My laptop can do way more than Android ever will. Plus Google installs Adware in the Android data folders behind your back, go check, if you have an Google Play Games, there a crap load of In-Game Ads living in the Android system folders.

Although I really like these kind of 'projects', there is always one big issue. As long people can install 'normal Google apps' directly from the/ some playstore or sideloading APKs, the will do this. Because, you just want those handy apps. These app are mostly build with Google SDK and use trackers / loggers/ any kind of telemetry. At the end your not that secure at all.

Just hoping that when I ask a question, I'll get an answer too.
Like, how do I install a Graphene OS on my Oppo F7?
Since this e OS ain't available on Pop F7.
Oppo F7, not Oppo R7 the Western version.

You're American but fail to mention these are only available for people in the EU. Why can't America get Samsungs? Why are there no phones for us with a headphone jack and expandable storage that are decent? Can I order an EU phone and have it work here?

Their website looks seriously amateur and I-d never heard of them until an extremely suss guy recommended them to me at the weekend. I-d be super cautious with these phones and this company, in fact I-d steer completely clear if I were you; )

For 99% of people eOS will be exactly what they need. Most people are tech illiterate. IMO they should not have MicroG at all. If you-re going to help non-techies get private and secure, there should be zero chance of using anything google.

The most important aspects of privacy are business model and jurisdiction. I would be worried if /e/fondation was shipping to the US as there is many pieces of legislation and legal orders in place to breach privacy.
