Seattle 1999: The battle of America against the World Trade Organization - The Hated One The Battle of Seattle was a week-long series of mass protests against the Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization hosted in downtown Seattle between November 30 and December 3 1999. It was one of the largest anti-globalization demonstrations and one of the first acts of mobilization coordinated via the Internet. Support independent content by donating Monero or Bitcoin

Although these protests happened 20 years ago, the rage against neoliberal capitalism never went away. No matter where on the political spectrum you fall on, unrestricted free trade corprocracy hurts more people than it helps. Worsening inequality, environmental destruction, stagnant wages, rising cost of living, centralization of wealth, monopolization, political corruption, and exploding homelessness are but a few of the symptoms of this huge, systemic, economic problem. No politician in America has seriously tried to address the underlying problem for generations, and if we don't do so soon, simply -getting out and voting- won't be enough to save the republic.

The Battle of Seattle will never be vague in my memory. Seeing it on tv made me actively take part in exposing and understanding these subjects and now some 25 years later, i have a small resume of interesting places and situations i have been in and encounters I-ve had. I can truly say its been an education.
I would like to give a little shoutout to the Zapatista in Mexico who played a mayor part in sparking this fire, and in carrying the flame. They are fighting even more ruthless authorities to this day.
No rest for the wicked. Peace to you all.

I-m here because of Timcast IRL-I-m 33 years old and I barely remember this, but I definitely remember occupy Wall Street and how pissed I was that I was struggling so much, only using my car for work because Gas got up to $5 and so many people were being evicted but Obama bailed out all of the banks and major corporations. Those were also the years that a lot of friends and family were scared of being rounded up mass raids at Walmart-s by ICE/INS, I don-t understand how people forget so easily and paint Obama as a savior

Demonetized for truth?
This watches like a documentary.
The sad morale of the story is: no matter how many millions go out to protest, corrupt politicians get their way. This isn't the early 20th century anymore for serious resistance (unless you consider alternatives like -work to rule- at a massive scale, and they don't feel they're the people's servants. It's all about the money and their own/employer's interests.

The news stations did not tell us the truth about theses protests when I watched in Poulsbo, Washington. They used propaganda to make the protesters look hysterical and unnecissarily violent. I remember the newscasts very well. They trivialized the requests of the protesters.

A huge chunk of the Black Block were Green Anarchists / Primitivists from Eugene Oregon. Their main guru was John Zerzan and their mascot was the Unabomber. After this there was quit a few other large (extremely large and violent) protests in Genoa and other cities.

Excellent analysis. Violent distractions and media info warping is what peaceful protesters must deal with currently. Great example of the power and challenges of holding leaders accountable. I support peoples right to organize.

-I am not violent. I am peaceful. REMOVE your KNEE FROM MY NECK- says the white protestor to the white law enforcement official. -Oh terribly sorry sir- -immediately removes knee from neck-
Huh. That must be nice.

Back then i hoped we could chance something, that my generation and others would build up a better future. 20 years later, my generation is raising up their own kids and nothing will change.
