Another 3080 vs 2080 because name and price, does everyone forget that the 1080ti was also a $699 card with 40% more cores than a 1080.
The 3090 -Titan class- only has 20% more cores than a 3080, so what really is the 3080?
Price is not the defining point of the class of card and we only see high power draws from architectures that fail to meet their performance targets at the typical power draw which for (x)x80 cards is 160-250W, the 3080 isn't just at the high end of power draw for a tier 2 card it's in a whole different realm.
When directly compared to a 2080ti, we see that performance per watt is in the single digit gain, 25% more power for an average 30% gain. At 250W the 3080 would be considered a very ordinary card but at 320W it produces the performance expected for 4K post 1080ti, everyone is just ignoring what's producing that performance, more power draw frankly.
If the 3090 only has 20% more cores and has a wider memory bus, what exactly would a 3080ti look like. There's no real specs left to draw from except to displace the 3090 like the 1080ti did with Titan X Pascal, except this time around it won't be 27% more performance but merely 10% if you're lucky.
The 2080ti should have been $699, but was priced like a Titan. The 3080 really is the 2080ti's successor but for the price (back to traditional pricing) and name.
Do you all expect next gen to also be 320-350W or will the 4080 be back to around 200-220W?

Love Brad starting of with -the hype is real- but then through out the episode, points out the HYPE WAS NOT REAL, i. e. the cooling was not as good as it was -hyped- to be (20 degrees cooler was the claim) that he said his was running at 79c. then saying he could not find games that the 3080 was twice as fast. So, it seems maybe the HYPE is NOT REAL? So, while Nvidia's 3080 release can be seen as Nvidia admitting they screwed up by over pricing the RTX 20 series. It is nice to see real performance improvements, while bringing prices back to where the previous 2 or 3 generations -80- series cards were priced. I still think early adopters need to watch out for the Nvidia branded knife in their back IF the Big Navi launch causes a Super/TI release that is faster and same or lower prices. just like the last time, the hype was HYPE. no RTX games for weeks/months. so, let's wait and see if there will really be -hundreds of games- with RTX, if AMD has any effective response with Big Navi. etc.

new intro is interesting +/-. Brad, drink less red bull. I want to hear Gordon's take on nvidia on the next fn, I'm not blown away. When you calm down, it seems as though the big leap in the 3080 is the price, pretty much just the price, on rt games the performance gain seems to be down to the rasterization side, the improvement on performance per watt seems to be a consequence of lower clocks and the improvement in cuda density is based on an architectural change of the cores. The samsung process does not look to contribute to performance. The price is great, and from afar the card looks terrific, high quality materials. samsung's big contribution must be the price, maybe that arm deal sweetens the deal, nvidia and samsung can cooperate, cheaper wafers cheaper arm license.

RTX 3080
CONS:
- Still keeping the 20 series price hike as the new norm
- power PIG
- HOT mess (it will actually be fun to use as a room heater in Winter)
- RTX still unsolved (40% penalty)
- the size! OMG!
- whitewashing the last generation
- a total disaster of a choice going with Samsung s option
PROS:
- Actually a performance increase over the last gen
- very interesting option work wise (if you can keep up with the noise and heat)
So we were delivered the future according to NVDA. Instead of getting more productive and efficient cards, we re still on the same path as before, small increments or we turbo the cards for everything they re worth and end up with portable ovens.
I ll PASS, TYVM.

Brad's audio sounded great but I couldn't hear Gordon due to his volume so low. . Volumes are so off. Grew tiresome of having to constantly ride the volume I stopped watching after about 30 minutes. Sorry but the audio really needs to be equalized. No other podcast/youtube show I watch has these issues. PCPer for example.

Dang it, I missed the livestream. I wanted to give Brad a $5 tip for his hard work and fashion statement. All he needs are Jensen's glasses.
Anyways the hype is so real, and my son is saying he needs a 3070 for Minecraft RTX. At least he knows he doesn't need the 3080 for raytraced 1080p now.

You guys seem to be falling behind in tech knowledge. So many other up and coming tech-tubers have so much more detailed and in depth knowledge. One your part a certain age I think you need to retire. Like no passion, just reading bullet points from a presser and then giving off the cuff opinions. --

Here's an issue I notice with users and reviewers over the last 15 years. if the GPU is a juicer and it's nvidia -it's not a big deal-. if the GPU is a juicer and it's AMD -it has great performance but I'm really concerned about the power draw and heat it produces-.

If you play in a room without it's own AC unit, keep the door open and a fan running. Since supplies are low, I'd say you might as well wait. There aren't enough games which require this card. You can live without ray tracing just like you did without Hairworks and PhysX

I have to give you folks a dose of reality. I took a trade in of a 1070 ti Duke when I sold a 2080. I then sold that 1070 ti for $200 (asking price) in 1 day (9/15/20. Ebay sold listings have those cards selling for over $230 into August.
