COULDNT DISAGREE WITH YOU GUYS MORE ABOUT OVERCLOCKING. Cpus dont have overclockiing now as much sucks because you could buy that k series chicp, that go stepping and get a golden lotery chip with big performance increases. i get why cpus dont have much now as they aproach a end road in big improvements, hence multi cores. but gpus oc sucks now and has for many years and why, becausde nvidia kjeeps the best gpus and sells them to partners for more versions of those cards. 1 2070 no get a super, get a amp extreme get a ti. to much choice now. and over priced. 15 years ago it would be a lottery but you could get a card that was near next step up like a 970 near 980 performance or a 1070 near 1080 performance and it was a lotery(yes bad exampl; es as the 970 had started the bin picking and takeing away the lotery gpu moments)payed a decent but aceptable price and that was like 5-6 years ago only, i payed 300 pounds. yep 40-50 pound more than vanilla but when cards like the 1070 were released at 430 it was a hard bitew to chew on but gurr still i bought a 1070 amp extreme but then the already over priced 1070 series turned to 2070 and 550 were the astronomical pricing for first year. yes rtx but come on 550 and they tried to convince public that the 2060 is the mid ranger. no the 2070 is the mid ranger and the prising was flagship thats what nvidia wanted us to swallow. and sorry choice is good but 1070, 1070 spure, 10 70 oc and 1070ti is just another way to make more money from the same bined process but dont give users the extra prises. nvidia suck gpus suck now and i also hate than cpus are very stagnent in terms of the imposible moores law.
im still on a i7 ivy bridge and will bve upgraduing to a 3900x next year, i just hope gpus are more stagle and realistic whe n the 3070 comes out otherwise ill be stuck for another 2 years with my 1070 amp extreme. yep dont want ray tracing till i can run games on mid to full details with 100 hz monitor at min at 2k, or the right lower price a 3070 should be 400-430 now. not 550 uk pounds

He was a fantastic guest! Definitely have him back. So I heard hes in Marketing, in my mind I go ohhh no not one of -them-. So it was super cool that he came off as a PC nerd first, and the marketing side of him wasnt buzzwords it was actual reasons and explanations. Really cool hearing alot of things from somebody with his perspective. And refreshing hearing some of the lower end parts talked about positively. I will say in some regards the high end cards/hardware is really needed. But for selling the dream to the people buying the low end stuff now. I didnt make much for a long time so I always had low end hardware and bashing things together to work. It was seeing and drooling over the high end that made it a goal of mine to have a great highish end PC(that was new no more hand me down hardware) and it really was a great feeling when I got there.

I am waiting on Zen 3 /Ryzen 4000 and I will tell you why. You're right, I don't have specs and benchmarks yet, but I know it is coming and is likely to have performance gains. I will wait for the initial round of reviews and likely go with it barring anything insane. I am currently on an x79 platform. My current PC setup started out on an i7 3820 and a GTX 670 in 2012. I upgraded along the way to a GTX 1080 and at the beginning of this year grabbed a used i7 3930 for like $80. This thing still games reasonably well, but is showing its age. It's easily been the greatest computer platform/ investment I've ever made. 8 years out of a device is insane. I'm not losing out on any experiences by waiting a few more months. I plan to make the switch to zen 3, keep the 1080 and see where my performance is at before evaluating a potential GPU purchase.

My RTX 2070 works just fine, but all my AMD/ATI cards in the past where sapphire cards. '
2080ti is amazing, played on it in a showroom, gosh. so amazing, but yeah no need for so much power. On my setup CPU/Monitor wise.
And Ed is right, I barely use my Ryzen 3600 for most games. I only use it fully when I compile. sometimes I catch myself admiring woah this stuff is new amazing I should get it, and I have to stop myself, because it is overkill. XD
I bought the RTX 2070 for 400bucks I was inbetween 5700X and 2070. because of those rumors. I got the RTX.

Best Star Trek Series. the real answer is the one your in the mood for haha. I love them all for different reasons, and competing series like Babylon 5. Even the new ones are pretty good, though Discovery did a major level up with the introduction of Captain Pike. I am surprised with the talk of sci fi/fantasy and books you guys didnt nerd out about the upcoming new Dune movie. I kinda hate that my hopes are so high for that movie

Not possible to eliminate coil whine? I've done it, it's very easy, buy quality power supplies from Corsair like the AX series which is top shelf, buy quality video cards and motherboards from Asus they know what they're doing. And finally play with fixed refresh rate like vsync or gsync or freesync. If you turn off vsync and play CS: GO at 850 frames per second, you are far more likely to hear coil whine as well.

I got into overclocking because I would buy the cheaper option to get as fast or almost as fast as the higher cost product.
Ie an Intel 2500 overclocked to 4. 5 to 5ghz. Or ATI 9500 soft modded to a 9700. Or a used 780ti overclocked to perform like the next generations cards and so on. I Always buy older hardware that can oc. Cheaper and sometimes just as good. Despite the higher power usage in some cases.

When water cooling came up I'm surprised nobody mentioned the Powercolor Liquid Devil. It comes with a waterblock pre-fitted and high binned silicon. The normal alternative of fitting an aftermarket block to a reference card results in a wasted air cooler, the effort of swapping them, and likely mediocre binned silicon. It doesn't make a lot of sense on a 5700 XT, but there's a market at the high end for sure.

How about for future motherboard tech idea, use the power supply as the -motherboard- housing the chipset. Universal power/data cables used in place of a pcb. Standardize the cable, connector, and mount. Packaging is left to the imagination of the case maker.

So I only deal with RTX2080/2080Ti for research at work but for home I have an RTX2060. Happy until I have enough money for the RTX2070 Super! Also looking at 5600/5700 for another daily driver for my second machine.
