Proven Way to BUILD MUSCLE Faster (SCIENCE)

It is possible to build muscle faster just by changing the way you lift the weights you are already lifting. The key thing to focus on is how fast you are lifting the weight. In this video, I-m going to show you how to increase the rate of muscle growth by speeding up the tempo during your lifts. There are 3 methods of doing this, each slightly different from the other, that all result in more type II muscle fiber activation and faster growth. The first is one that is used by many athletes to build muscle. You want to take a weight that would cause you to reach failure in the 10-12 rep range. Instead of lifting it at a consistent tempo throughout the set from the first rep to the last, you want to try and move the weight as fast as you can during the concentric or lifting portion. The ironic thing about this type of lift is that to outside observers, it may not appear as though you are lifting the weight quickly at all. That is ok and it is normal. To you however, it should feel as if you couldn-t move the weight any faster. You should feel as if you are explosively lifting the dumbbells on the way up as fast as possible. The reason it will be slow looking is that you have to remember that you are still using weights that are in the heavier range and won-t be easy to push very rapidly. The fact that you are exerting the effort to move the weights as fast as you can is enough to help recruit more of the Type II muscle fibers to help complete the task. The more fibers you recruit to perform the lift, the more tension that can be developed and ultimately the more muscle mass you can build because of this. This isn-t the only way to incorporate speed into your training however. You can actually lower the weight even more (to allow failure in the 15 rep range or so) and start pushing as fast as you can only on the concentric portion of the lift while slowly controlling the descent or eccentric portion of the lift. This is a very explosive way to train and can help you to yet again add muscle by increasing the overall tension that you are incorporating into the exercise. Tension equals mass times acceleration. If you can increase the speed of the mass you are moving you will end up with more tension being delivered to the muscles. Finally, dispelling the rumor that light weights are incapable of helping you to build muscle, you would want to drop the weight again (this time to where failure occurs in the 25-30 rep range) and perform speed reps. Speed reps have both a fast concentric and eccentric part of the lift and your focus is to just move the weights as fast and explosively as possible. Here again you recruit type II fibers by virtue of the metabolic overload created by this type of training as well as the speed. The bottom line is, if you want to build muscle faster you have to start finding ways to lift your weights faster on every single rep of select sets. I am too slightly confused since in all his other videos hes using a slower controlled form. While emphasizing lockout and full contraction. I understand explosiveness in concentric phase but to build the most mass I believe eccentric should be slow an controlled to activate more muscle fibers on the way down. I think this works great while circuit training with light weight and no rest between sets while cutting and maintaining size. But in a mass program I wouldn't solely recommend this technique especially with heavier weights because your risking injury especially if your not young. I can see it for s few burnout drop sets for mass but that's it. Yates always stressed explosion with a slow negative motion and he built the best quality mass while not having great genetics although he was on alot ot gear he still put crazy quality mass in only a year. U rather take his advice for mass since while cut and strong. really isnt very big.

Jeff I recently watched a few videos from Scotthermanfitness and he seems to contradict many things you say and do/teach. I have been a huge fan of you and watch every single video you do. I am also a success from AX1 and hope to get another AX program for Christmas. I was just wondering about some of the things he does and says. I don't want to bash on him or anything but you know more about these things than I do. Just hoping you could shed some light on things. FYI I only do what you say when it comes to training like an athlete. Thank you for everything you do Jeff and please keep doing it.

Ok guys I need your help, I started working-out for like 1 month and a half by now, and i can't do the same streak as the beginning, I'm less -strong- than before, and I don't know why? is it normal? I don't sleep a lot(like 6h30 per day or maybe less) but I'm not working-out too much too I think, so I don't know if it is fatigue or not? if someone can help: ) edit: I train like 4-5 times a week each time around 1h-1h15, and I eat before Working-out(maybe it is the biggest problem)

Hey Jeff I love your videos and I am learning A LOT with them, Thank you!
I have a question though. but please dont make me look ignorant if you find it easy to answer.
Regarding the supplements intake for building muscle.
Is it true that too much protein intake can damage the liver or kidneys?
Do you advise that sometimes we should pause the supplements intake and during this period we should cleanse the liver with a special diet or pills?
Cheers

Jeff, do you not do barbell shoulder pressing due to your torn labrum? Did you have surgery to fix it? I have one and I really want to return to vertical barbell pressing because of the tremendous strength gain. Mine has healed but I think off center and may need surgery. Huge fan, you helped me fix my bulging disc/posture/lifting/gains. You are truly a Godsend.

Could you do a video on a good stretch routine for lower body, legs/glutes/groin and lower back. You've said before that stretching should be done before bed, but I don't know if I trust some of the other videos I find online. Could you do a video on this as I have exceptionally tight groins and hamstrings as well as bad lower back pain.

Truth! Try full on sprint vs 1-hr-long lazy jog. You will be way more sore in way more places with full sprint only spending about 15 minutes (that-s with rest in between springs. Make more efficient use of your time. No excuses.
Jeff, you-re giving away the store again!

I train in all these ways everyday, mixing it up on different lifts, it has always worked for me and I love it, keeps it fun. I like to also do isometric holds and then go straight into speed reps and then back to hold, those kill me and followed by negatives. Serious pump

Jeff, when we are building muscle, isn't it important to feel the complete movement? For example, if I speed up the concentric on a dumbell bicep curl, will it not adversely impact the quality of the concentric movement which includes the curl and supernation at the top?

I'm exhausted. Just came off reading a ton of material that said that slow, high quality reps, low volume, high intensity training with 3-5 minute rests is best for building muscle density (myofibrillar hypertrophy. I topped my class, but I don't get my body at all!
