TRY 2 WEEKS FREE OF MY TRAINING AND NUTRITION APP HERE: DOWNLOAD THE FREE 30 DAY GUIDE HERE: What if you could lose fat while eating huge meals, never counting calories, and rarely feeling hungry To test that, I built the world's most filling diet: a volume eating plan that swaps calorie dense foods for high volume low calorie meals and low calorie foods big enough to keep you full in a calorie deficit. It's a meal plan to lose fat, full of fat loss meals that make fat loss easy. Two experienced lifters followed it for 30 days. Manson started at 24. 7% body fat and Melody at 32. 5%. They followed three rules: three meals a day from an oversized bowl; at least one lean protein, one high-volume food, and one measured serving of fat per meal, with no snacks; and fill the bowl to the top. Fats were capped because they are calorie dense foods that pack far more calories into less space. The foods were picked to give a lot of food for few calories. This is the logic behind volume eating: 200 calories of shrimp is far more food than 200 calories of steak, and low-calorie produce makes even bigger portions than trail mix, rice, or pasta. As the stomach fills, stretch receptors in its walls respond to the expansion and signal fullness. The same stretch principle drives gastric bypass surgery, which averages 12 to 18 pounds of fat loss in the first three months; my theory was that creating a similar fullness effect through food volume might produce a comparable rate of fat loss without surgery. The first week showed how differently they approached the same plan: Manson chased convenience, repeating strawberries, shrimp, and eggs while barely touching vegetables, whereas Melody kept experimenting with new meals. After one week both were down about three pounds - early proof the calorie deficit was working. To push fullness further, I added three more strategies. The first was carbonation: with every meal they drank a diet soda or other carbonated drink. Research comparing carbonated water with still water found carbonation produced a bigger rise in fullness that lasted almost an hour. Manson said it helped his cravings; Melody just found her meals harder to finish. By Day 15, Manson was down six pounds and Melody five. Manson worried the fast loss might cost him muscle. Every meal had lean protein and both kept training progressively; their strength was rising - encouraging, but only the final scans could confirm muscle was preserved. The second strategy was broth: one meal a day included roughly one to two cups, before the meal or as soup. In one study, people ate about 20% fewer calories when they started with a low-calorie soup. Combined with carbonation, these high volume low calorie meals stayed under roughly 500 calories. Then the scale stalled. With high-sodium broth daily, my theory was that temporary water retention was masking continued fat loss - and a week later the bump reversed. By around Day 20, a bigger issue emerged: fullness and enjoyment aren't the same. Manson was sick of the same foods and craving beef, rice, and fried chicken, while Melody's variety made the plan easier to tolerate, though cravings, family meals, and barbecues still tested her. The final strategy was eating more slowly with a tiny fork and spoon. More bites meant longer meals, the idea being that more time eating leaves you fuller and more satisfied. Both found it frustrating, but Manson ended up dropping from three meals to two because he couldn't finish all the food. By the end, Melody was rarely hungry and could see her upper abs, and Manson was seeing clear changes too. Both named shrimp a top food; Manson's top strategy was the small utensils, Melody's the carbonated drinks. The final DEXA scans told the story. Melody lost just over eight pounds, almost all fat, dropping from 32. 5% to 29. 7% body fat. Manson lost 10. 4 pounds, 10. 2 of it fat, dropping from 24. 7% to 20. 7%. Neither lost muscle. For these two, huge portions of low calorie foods produced substantial fat loss while making hunger almost irrelevant. But killing hunger didn't kill the other challenges of dieting: monotony, cravings, convenience, social situations, and food variety still mattered. 0: 00 - 3: 15: The Diet Rules 3: 16 - 6: 08 - Week 1 & Recipes 6: 09 - 10: 28 - Week 2 10: 29 - 14: 30 - Week 3 14: 31 - 17: 20 - Week 4 17: 21: Final Results Click below to subscribe for more videos: Disclaimers: Jeremy Ethier is not a doctor, physical therapist, or a medical professional. I want to say THANKS for teaching me how to cook konjac noodles! I used to try to dry them with paper towels and your way is MUCH MUCH EASIER. So thank you for that. They taste wonderful now.
Only on day 3 of the diet. So far, I gotta say, I really really appreciate how calorically efficient, and space-saving fat is. I feel so bad taking up so much damn space in the fridge for my batch cooking. I try to be efficient by making a lot of food all at once, but damn, it takes up so much space for so little (quantity of) meals. An ENTIRE SILLET of vegetables was only enough to cover LESS THAN 3 meals. I live with 4 others. We couldn't all do this. We would need multiple fridges. And the dishes. holy shit sooooo many dishes (because now other people are eating entirely different meals. I was really hoping all my cooking efforts these last three days would give me enough to cover the days of my period when I don't feel like doing anything. But no, there's not enough!
On the plus side, the most I've been able to eat has been 2 meals plus a large-ish bowl of watermelon (one of the days I only hate one meal. So it is keeping me full during my luteal phase where I'm normally eating everything I see. Bloated and gassy, but full! My poor husband can smell the broccoli. LOL

If you decide to eat a lot of spinach, chard, beat greens, or cooked rhubarb, pay attention to pain developing in your joints. These are very high oxalate foods and you can overwhelm your kidney's ability to excrete it. When that happens, the needle-like crystals get stashed in your joints (and other places) and cause a lot of pain or just a little pain. My vegan diet and macular degeneration had me eating a lot of spinach and beet greens plus lots of the other lesser oxalate foods. I ended up with a frozen shoulder (which is frozen due to the incredible pain associated with moving it) and thumbs that hurt like the dickens. Just quit eating those high level oxalate foods and the pain will ease up quite a bit (mine was an overnight reduction. Took 3 weeks for me to be able to move my shoulder without much pain and the thumbs were good in 1 week. I have perfectly good kidneys and still overwhelmed them basically eating just like this video suggests. So pay attention. If you notice pain building up, check out an official list of oxalates in foods and figure out what is causing your pain and stop eating it. Oh, yeah, cocoa is very high in oxalates. so much for the pleasure of 80% chocolate bars. good luck on your diet. This is a good one!

i'm currently trying to lose weight, and i'm already seeing some results, but it's definitely not as fast or satisfying as i expected it to be. i'm in a constant search of what to eat that's not chicken breast, cottage cheese or greek yogurt that would actually be filling AND would take away my constant urge to snack throughout the day. as well as that, i'm struggling with veggies. i know i need them, but eating just salad is soooooooo boring! after seeing this video i decided to get that guide, and hopefully it can show me what i could eat to actually enjoy it and see results even a bit faster

Bone broth is expensive even if you make it yourself. Compared to the nutrients you get from it bone broth is a terrible value. Bones used to be cheap but not now! For the price of boxed bone broth if used regularly you cold get some serious protein in the form of actual meat. It is variety for variety sake and not significant nutrient source. It was a great idea when people where making broths from what would otherwise be wasted bones and vegtables not so much as practiced today. I can purchase ribeye for the same price as I can bones per pound.

eat good food, and always put your carbs in between enough protein/fat/fiber in ratio to your carbs, and your insulin spikes are completely flattened, leading to a slow digestion, preventing NEW fat storage. and of course 5-6 hrs of gaps between meals and ONLY water/black coffee/pure black/green/lemon tea/any-no-calori-drink-food in between meals, to prevent any caloric intake in-between meals and maintain your biological fast, to ensure active fat/lipid burning from 3 hour mark from the time you had your last meal.

small utensils are a torture and nothing more, and if you are telling me to eat a massive meal with them it's not gonna work
if it's cold I may come back to it a few times, but for hot meals no way, half of it gonna go to waste
also they are already feeling more than full, no need for extra tricks
small utensils may work when you don't have a well engineered bowl and ingredients yet to just make the meals smaller, but when the size is already fixed why bother why suffer

Well that explains why I’m 8-10% body fat my entire life. Im a pescatarian no milk, no sugar. If anything I’m consuming less than 40g of sugar maximum. Just eggs, seafood, and everything vegetarian. I’ve ate so much food(like a mountain 3-5p)and up till this day I can’t gain weight. Lean and shreadded and weigh 135-140p. I can do 40-80% of my weight in weighted calisthenics. I’m large as a 180 pound person. Now I know why I can’t gain weight.

I honestly wish there was more options as far as protein for vegetarian because I’ve been trying to get more protein in my diet, but it doesn’t seem like tofu was really an option in this. I don’t know if you can make a video that makes us more geared towards vegetarians so that you’re also getting the right amount of protein because that’s something I’ve been struggling with in my gym journey and I feel like I go towards more fats.

To me, this looks like hell on earth (and I'm not dissing the process nor the science behind it. I could never eat such quantities and I always struggled to eat the gym plate so to say. Feeling overly full is one of the worst feelings for me, so I try to consume compact, calorie-rich foods that are heavy on fats and protein so I can get rid of the volume.
Kudos to the people that can do it like the guys in the video. I could never.

I’m so glad to find out that I’m not the only one who craves steak and chocolate around the time of my period there has to be a scientific reason to why it’s always chocolate and steak and I’m not talking about milk chocolate I’m talking about 70% dark chocolate, and the cleanest that you can find With no chemicals. I have been on a weight loss journey myself and I’ve already lost 45 pounds since April 11.

jeremyethier you may want to consider another version of this that takes women's cycle's needs into consideration. If she was craving chocolate while actively losing a mass of stem cells through menstruating, it would make sense that her body asks her to eat something it knows triggers stem cell creation. If it's like one little square of 85 percent and she's already burning more calories by menstruating.

Expanding you stomach in short term can make you feel full, but in long term it will lead to bigger stomach, so you will need more more food get full. Also mixing soda with the food decrease food processing and it will increase toxification. More toxification lead to less energy, poor training and sleep. So 2 changes - eat 80-90% full; no liquids during the eat(the food you chose contains enough water.

As an Asian myself, using Asian test subjects to go through this experiment is so important for people like me. Asian food culture can be really difficult to walk away from when there's so many family meals or rice with every meal but it's cool to see them navigate these issues. I also struggle eating vegetables like Mason so this has been extremely validating.

I do not understand pumping your stomach so overly full. Zero understanding. If anybody thinks they can make sense of this, pls try. Because all you're doing is stretching out your stomach and conditioning your body to wanting more and more. Doesn't sound very healthy to me. The food looks great, not the obcene amounts and to add soda to that is just insane.

I've found that whenever I eat a big meal that makes my stomach feel stretched, about two hours later I'm hungry again. There's a rebound effect from the stomach being stretched and then no longer being stretched as that meal is moved into the intestine. If I don't eat that much, I don't get that rebound hunger.

7: 13 ahh i think this wont work on me cause carbonated drinks give me biggest burps and all of the remaining bubbles just bring pain. But if i drink slightly carbonated beverages i dont think i see the difference because instantly burp them all out and it is pretty easy to drink 2 cans in a row and still be hungry

Cool video, did something similar where Id start every meal with a giant salad or bbq'd veggies to fill up then have a protein. Since eating makes you hungry I also pushed my first meal to dinner time so I couldnt overeat even if i wanted(though for muscle growth I could see this being slightly problematic)

I’ve decided to try out Built with sciene app but have two questions: does the app offer a workout plan that is adapted to hypermobility And does the app offer science backed lessons about perimenopause so one can continue living a healthy lifestyle when the body starts to show signs of change

Before seeing this video I knew that I was going to start eating a low calorie density diet. This idea is not new, but I love the way you have presented it! It just makes so much sense and has gotten so many people off the diet merry go round. I feel inspired and will definitely start today.
