Why You Store Fat Here, And How To Get Rid Of It

Get 2 weeks free of your personalized training and nutrition plan here: Why does stubborn fat disappear quickly from some areas but refuse to budge from others In this video, I share how to lose belly fat and other frustrating problem zones, including how to get rid of belly fat around your sides, what to do about lower belly fat, and even how to lose side belly fat that hangs on longest. I rank five of the most stubborn fat-storage areas from easiest to hardest to lose, using real DXA scans, research, and transformations to show why each area behaves differently and the training and diet strategies that can help. LINK TO THE PAST DIET VIDEO MANSON AND MELODY FOLLOWED: First is visceral fat. This is the deep fat stored around your organs and unlike the stubborn fat you can see, it can be surprisingly high even in people who look lean or muscular. A 2023 review of 84 randomized trials found vigorous aerobic exercise and HIIT ranked among the most effective exercise approaches for reducing visceral fat. Resistance training alone helped, but combining lifting with cardio ranked much higher. Still, the single most reliable driver of visceral-fat loss is a calorie deficit. Simply cutting back on sugary and high-fat foods while adding cardio may be enough to start. Next is face fat at 3/10. Sometimes a fatter face isn't more fat; it's water retention. Cutting back on takeout and processed foods can reduce that water retention quickly. For actual face fat, your face is often one of the first places you'll notice progress while dieting. Manson did it without initially counting calories by eating more whole, home-prepared foods and replacing calorie-containing drinks like bubble tea and lattes with calorie-free options. Upper-body fat gets a 6/10. After analyzing more than 100 DXA scans from people we've worked with, I noticed women's arm body-fat percentage averaged about 3. 1 percentage points above their total body-fat percentage, while men's arms averaged about 4. 2 percentage points below theirs. For men, more upper-body fat seemed to collect around the chest. But losing fat isn't the only way to improve these areas. Building the muscles underneath can make them look firmer and more defined. For the back of the arms, overhead extensions can help build the triceps long head. For the chest, incline dumbbell presses and machine flyes with a slight forward lean can help build the upper chest. Combine that with a calorie deficit, one fist-sized serving of lean protein at each meal, and around 8, 00010, 000 steps per day. Love handles are much tougher: 8. 5/10. One reason may involve the balance of alpha- and beta-receptors in fat cells. Research found deeper visceral fat had close to a 50/50 split, while subcutaneous fat had roughly 60% of the more resistant receptors and 40% of the more permissive ones. You can't spot-reduce love handles, so how to lose side belly fat really comes down to lowering your overall body fat while building a stronger V-taper to make them look smaller. Lateral raises for your shoulders and pull-ups for your upper back can create the appearance of a narrower waist. To actually lose the fat, you still need to reduce overall body fat. You typically won't notice much progress until below around 20% body fat for men and 30% for women. At this stage, tracking calories becomes much more useful. A rough starting estimate is body weight in pounds 1013 calories. Finally, lower-belly fat gets a 10/10. For many men, lower belly fat is the very last area to lean out. Luke still had lower-belly fat at around 15% body fat despite visible upper and middle abs, and most men who don't genetically store less fat there may need to reach roughly 1012% body fat for the area to really lean out. The leaner you become, the fewer calories your body naturally burns, so maintaining the same deficit can require eating a little less, moving more, or adding cardio. But pushing too aggressively can increase the risk of losing muscle. A useful upper limit at this stage is body weight in pounds 0. 007 for weekly weight loss. And before chasing that final pocket of lower-belly fat, ask whether getting that lean is actually worth it for you. Even around 10% body fat, there can still be a little lower-belly fat left to obsess over. Disclaimers: Jeremy Ethier is not a doctor, physical therapist, or a medical professional. It amazes me that people still think that saturated fat and salt are a problem. Consider that polyunsaturated fats are easily oxidized, monounsaturated less-so, and when they become part of your cell membranes, especially in substantial quantities, they cause premature cell death, heart disease, hypertension, etc. Meanwhile, saturated fats are not easily oxidized, and becoming part of cell membranes, they promote longevity; and getting too much salt is far less of a problem than getting too little: anyone trifling about appearances over their health doesn't rightly care about themself. Who cares if you look bloated by eating 3800mg of sodium a day if that's what keeps you healthy as opposed to more or less (and that requirement is proportional to the rate of excretion)
Heart disease and the like are not yet another idiopathically caused disease to blame on this or that inadequate explanation as usual, or start confusing into some useless umbrella term. It's just not mentioned because not mentioning something and diverting attention when it does come up, while calling everyone else crazy or a conspiracy theorist, or otherwise outright dismissing them without an objection, just makes it easy to fool anyone and everyone who puts too much trust in _scientific authorities_ (the experts, but that would just be Appeal To Authority fallacy.
Facts should be known through demonstration, not assented to as doctrines via trust. The amount of trust you put in someone does not merit that all they say is true, and all they do is right: trust in authority ceases to be reasonable when it becomes a blind trust. It's nearly the same as blind obedience, only it pertains to ideas rather than actions.

I've been using Jeremy's BWS App for about 5 weeks and honestly, it's my goto App for all my fitness needs.
I currently do a 4 day split Fat Loss program which I changed from a 5 day Build Muscle program for 4 weeks. I'm tracking everything. my weight, calories, everything. I've also started swimming once a week. I've already begun to see changes in my body and my lifestyle, which now centres around health, nutrition and fitness.
I've just turned 52, like yesterday and I've recently been diagnosed with ADHD, so keeping to a gym program was beyond the scope of my brain but thanks to medication, I've been consistent with his program, something I've never been able to achieve previously. And with that comes a whole realm of improvements in my lifestyle. better nutrition, more sleep and better quality, improved self cofidence, improved cardiovascular system.
And after seeing this video, I've decided to start doing a spin class once a week as well. to help burn off that visceral fat.
Thanks Jeremy for the inspiration and to all the team behind the scenes who create content like this.

The thing I learned was, genetics can play a role where fat is stored and where fat is lost.
Not because you ran, you'll lose fat in your thighs. You can lose some in your face.
Not because you ate, you'll gain fat on your stomach. It can go to the arm.
Remember that it's not about what you eat, it's about how much.
One ice cream today won't hurt. A pizza next week won't make you fat.
I also learned that, not because it's healthy it's always good.
Steak for example, it's healthy, it has protein, if you eat just right you'll get its benefits, but if you consume too much then that excess nutrients then turns to unhealthy fat.
It's also about how much you consume of it, and it's about if you'll take action to burn' some of it.
The only thing that worked for me was actually just a calorie deficit. It takes time, but stay consistent.

Here’s some ideas for these fats -
Clean & Press (single dumbbell) - this makes chest substantially more full
Hip Flosser! - new move I invented: D - swing dumbbell front to back along hip, hips shifting side to side, feet close together. KILLS ABS FAST!
For Jaw Fat - I think bouncing may be best (I don’t know the solution) - but jump rope or bag toss (another new move) I suspect are best for jaw - or jogging. Bag toss is a bag of beans / sand, toss in air, jump twice, repeat. Like jump rope but easily done indoors and is quiet.
Lower abs, yes, I think impossible / not worth it.
I’ve lost 25 lbs of 6 months - so it’s like I reduced a weighted vest by 25 lbs. This is why as you get skinny’ you must move a LOT more so it’s almost easier to keep the weight vest / fat, unless taking photos haha: D

I've been using the app for a little over 6 months now and I've drop a lot weight and fat. However, the love handle one, that one doesn't seem to shrink at all. Surely it has but, even though i'm i a better shape I ever was, they are really, really visible. Even the belly pocket fat doesn't seem to be bigger. And that love handle is really annoying me a lot. I've droped from 22% to 14% but still there. I started to struglle and its been a few weeks now that I can't drop weigh. I increased my training, but that requires more energy, so was feeling weaker, so i had to eat more, got more anxious. a negative cycle that made stuck. Hope get things back together and back on tracks to lose that last (very) visible fat stubborn.

The Fitness Paradigm by Leon Tervin made stubborn fat much less frustrating once I understood that you can influence fat loss, but you can't negotiate with your body about where it comes from first. Genetics, hormones and your individual fat distribution help determine which areas hold on the longest. There isn't a special exercise that forces your body to finally surrender belly or thigh fat.
Stubborn fat doesn't require a secret method. Sometimes it simply requires more patience than the rest of your body.
Once you understand that, you stop hunting for ways to attack one body part and start trusting the fundamentals long enough to actually see what they can do.

Two months after following by your advices watching your videos from recent to as far as 5 years ago, I have gone down from 84. 8kg to 77. 5kg today with combination of your diet advice, whey protein (I use Optimum Nutrition Double Rich chocolate, daily 10k steps/day for past 3 weeks(bec I saw this advice later in your videos, 3x weight lifting for 50 min a week. My strength has also doubled for chest press, lat pull down, leg press and hamstring curls (90lbs now.
Thank you for your videos and evidence based advices. I aim to get lean and say goodbye to my belly in 4-6 months time and stay lean around 15%.

Sometimes the most unexpected things end up reaching us exactly when we need them. I wasn’t searching for another fitness book when I came across The Forgotten Method of Body Transformation by Andrew Parker. I was just going through the motions and feeling frustrated with myself. Something about the book made me step back and look at the patterns I had been repeating for years. It helped me understand that changing your body also means changing the habits and mindset behind it. If you’ve been feeling stuck too, maybe The Forgotten Method of Body Transformation will give you that same perspective.

You cannot target specific areas of body fat. You either reduce overall fat you maintain overall fat or you gain overall fat. You cannot target belly fat or the love handles or any other place where that accumulates. I was 100% BS and is extremely well documented. You can do 1000 situps a day and it's not gonna do anything for your belly like that. Lean diet low fat calorie deficit enough to keep you healthy and keep you going is the key. Feel free to research on your own but make sure you're getting it from a credible source, not some beauty who is trying to sell his exercise program

You can't be everything. Now you either choose what you're gonna be looking like and perform the best in.
Doing HIIT = counts as a workout. You will be drained like you were lifting weights. Add that to a weight program of 3-4 times a week with 2x hiit = you overtrain. Now you can do steady state cardio like twice and normal conditional cardio like walking or bicycling for 20-30mins daily or something.
if you don't like that much weightlifting but like the muscle and strength for everyday life, then like 2x fbw workouts with 2x cardio, either like running or doing HIIT.

reply

HIIT acts as an intense physical stressor. It spikes cortisol, drains your central nervous system, and requires heavy recovery that can directly interfere with your lifting sessions. If visceral fat is driven by cortisol how is HIIT the best tool to lose visceral fat
For someone lifting heavy with intense compound movements, low-intensity steady cardio is usually the far superior choice. It allows you to burn the necessary calories and mobilize visceral fat without piling extra fatigue onto your nervous system or running up your stress hormones.

So I have a strongman physique, although I appear strong I still have a fat lying around my lower chest and obliques, also my stomach feels kind of bloated. Remind you I've been working out for almost several years and still have a same physique. I still train using my own bodyweight with resistance bands as well and using workout structures like emom, amrap, tabata, and ladder reps workout. Of course I have a stationary bike at my apartment. My goal is to have a crossfit physique or let's say 15% bodyfat. What could I possibly do wrong here

I eat butter, cream, egg yocks, dark chicken meat, and pork I, I also eat beef of all kinds. Side pork which is uncured bacon. full fat daily. No way am I going to eat unnatural low fat. I am 61 have a healthy percentage of visceral fat. And yes you need some visceral fat
Why You Need It
It protects and cushions your internal organs, like your liver, stomach, and intestines.
It keeps a safe distance between each organ in your belly.
It makes up about 10% of your total body fat

I have pmos and i have all these type of fats around my body earlier it was showing up in my arms now each of those place u mentioned. I never lasted in intense cardio always felt fatigued. My body would crash during midday despite doing all these things: walking, strength training, cutting back on unhealthy food. I have lost hope because every time I see a doctor, they put me on contraceptive pills, then come the side effects; my stomach has become so sensitive, I can't take spice anymore

I thought I understood fitness until I read The Forgotten Method of Body Transformation by Andrew Parker. I used to jump from one workout plan to another, constantly trying to find something that would finally work. After applying some of the ideas from the book, I started approaching everything differently. The biggest change wasn’t even physicalit was finally becoming consistent. If you ever get the chance to read The Forgotten Method of Body Transformation, don’t overlook it.

The oversimplification of HIIT as a fat burner drves me nuts. Firsr, the intensity per unit of time is misleading, and the elevated metaboloc afterburnis GREATLY overestimated, especially when fatigue negatively impacts othertrainkng days and NEAT makes a rapud adjustment to account fir the stress. The stimulus to fatigue ratio is unsustainable for the vast majority of trainees, and is too high a cost for ROI. This is basically a clickbait video, and I fell for it like a sucker

Thanks for the video - good info. Would you please do a video or some videos about beginning weight training for women over 50 Believe it or not, there are a LOT of us out here and our bodies and metabolism don't function like they did when we were 40. I used to be able to just take my calories to 1500 for a few weeks and drop 5 pounds. Not anymore! I also recently learned I'm insulin resistant - I'm sure there are a lot of people in that boat, too. Thanks!

Trust me, when one gets into their 60s, that last bit of lower belly fat gets much, much more difficult to lose, especially if one wants to maintain, let alone build, muscle mass. It's not impossible, but requires next level optimization of training, diet, and lifestyle to pull it off. I'm prioritizing the muscle mass a bit more than lessening the last hardly noticeable bit of belly fat.
reply

Yes, I have a lot of fat on my arms and belly/hips. This makes me feel very bad. With this skinny fat body, the problem is trying to be in a calorie deficit when I can't replace meals with ones that are more satiating with fewer calories, especially at dinner and for snacks, which I eat as regular cookies here in Brazil. So, I have to manage until I'm financially stable.

I did crunches till I cried my belly and thighs would not budge no matter what. Spent years spot-training, wasted money on wraps and creams. Then a post in a women's group mentioned Hormonal Reset Protocol written by (Emma Wells. It was about hormone timing, not exercise 28 lbs dropped evenly, and my legs finally leaned out. Why don't they teach this
