Just this week I had my first and embarrassing incident of valsalva while repping with just 275. have always had a bad habit of holding my breath through most of the set and I guess it finally caught up to me. after about my 4 or 5th set of only 8 I get up to write it down and -WHAM- like a bolt lightening Im so dizzy I cant stand. it lasted so long I thought I was having a stroke. been a little light headed before but never full on merry go round fall down dizzy. went in for check up, everything was fine, in fact great health. but I told doc, man, I dont understand, its never been a problem before. he just laughed and says its never a problem until it is. so breathe please. lol

I have been going back and forth on this guy with regard to big natural or not. Not because I am a hater, because he just seems really honest for some reason, it's just as energy. That said, now that I have seen this one rep max for bench, I believe he is not on any anabolics. Not that what he hit is bad, it's better than those guys, but it's nothing special. Not compared to guys on gear. Barely, as a natural it is a solid lift but if Matt was on tests and other compounds he would definitely be close to a 500 pound bench considering this video evidence. Especially considering the 180 kg lift he did while still powerlifting or last year, whatever. Great job bro

I test my 1RM occasionally but is there really any point to it if you're not thinking of competing? Does it have any benefits as part of your training and if so how often should I test it? I mean, my goal is 3 plates for 15 reps: p seems like 1RM is a lot to do with having that specific technique to get the bar down and up once but so much of it is technique that it's not really that useful as an indicator of your overall strength. Don't get me wrong - I lift heavy sometimes but I'm not sure if I need to practise these specific techniques when I don't really care how much my 1RM is?

Hi Matt, I have recently plateaued with my bench press with my max at 130kg and I desperately want to get it up to 140kg, I have been thinking about including a high pin press into my routine as I struggle a lot with my bench press lockout. I was wondering if you were structuring a workout plan whether you would include this in place of a session of benching, after benching or even include it at all in place of other tricep movements to assist? I currently bench twice a week in a PPL split. As always, great video, missed Luca in this one though

I think arms wide leave you open to pec tears, I should know. Iam just comeing back from one I think your arms should be in a position as if you where going to punch someone as that's where I think your most powerful, but I have short arms, lats are super important I never met a weak man with a massive back, your right bench and squart go up in body weight, but funny deadlift don't really, funny that, anyway good bench for your body weight

I understand that you arching your back is going to improve performance, but to maximise hypertrophy and eventually strength wouldn't it be more worth the individuals time to flatten the back and push the core into the bench, thus increasing ROM and requiring greater work? (Btw I am no goon (I have a degree in sport and exercise science and L3 PT) just a genuine question.

Great vid as usualI would like to add that the bench press technique you detail here is great for increasing the amount of weight someone can lift, but not so great for aesthetic muscular development due to smaller range of motion. So more powerlifting technique advice to increase weight rather than bodybuilding, but excellent advice none the less.

Its kinda contradictionary and funny at the same time. The goal of a powerlifter and his biggest hobby is lifting more weight. And all you learn as you get experience, is basically how to cheat your way into lifting more weights, reducing the lifting part more and more. That means essentially the more you lift, the less you lift. In a way -

Is it weird that some of my favourite parts of your videos are when Sarah throws food/items at you? She seems to do it a lot, from memory - tea bag, easter eggs, whipped cream, (potato/mash at dinner. Don't know why, but it makes me laugh. Usually being fired from off screen, leaving you no way to retaliate/trying to remain professional
