And this is where a scare loses its effect: overexposure. If you expose someone to the same concept over and over again, or for too long, you end up dulling them to the sensation of the scare. I do like chainsaws, because they are legitimately scary in some circumstances. but while one or even 2 is scary enough, if you have just a shit-ton going off all at once, instead of that swarm of yellowjackets, you end up seeing only honeybees. Plus, the actors lose their credibility as the characters they're playing since they're not going to hurt you. If I've learned anything from haunted houses, it's that if you linger too long, or allow people to get too good a look at you, rather than a brief one before they run, then you end up not scaring them.
