Take a journey on one of the most breathtaking train rides in the Swiss Alps with a trip to Mount Pilatus. The train ride will take you through picturesque landscapes, surrounded by majestic mountains, as you make your way to the summit of Mount Pilatus. Once you reach the summit, you'll be greeted with panoramic views of the surrounding alpine landscape. The Mount Pilatus cogwheel train ride is a unique and unforgettable experience. Went on this ride in 1986 was a fantastic experience and a wonderful feat of engineering. To be greeted by a Hotel after such a remote journey was amazing.
I thought there was a train ride first and then cable car to the top of Pilatus but seems it was the cable car first. Always puzzled me how they got everything to the top.
Pilatus was where they filmed the Bond scenes for OHMS an amazing end to the journey, quite fantastic.

My wife and I took a bus to the foot of the mountain, then the cable car to the top of Mt Pilatus. I remember the smell of sausages being grilled at the top along with an ice cold beer. After being on top for a couple hours we took the cog railway down to the base. Then took a boat on Lake Lucern back to the town of Lucern. The trip to Switzerland was magical!

It is gorgeous scenery, obviously. My question is, what is the steering wheel for They are on a track, right I could see they need someone to operate the throttle/brake. Edit: OK, after watching to near the end, it looks like the wheel actually IS the throttle. Not certain, but it looks like the tram slows down as he turns it left to lower numbers.

I once took a train ride from Germany to Italy. In was the most wonderful solo ride on a train I have ever experienced in my life. It took about 10-12 hours, through many countries, all with uniquely wonderful landscapes. I plan on doing it again with my adult son!

Lucky you! Clear sky, no clouds surrounding Pilatus top. You saw valleys and lake below. Maybe one day you will hike along the mountain flower pass (or dragon pass. Not too easy, espesially to a top sightseeng platform, but that was unbelivable experiance

Is there hocks or something else around the railhead to prevent the train from tilting over in case of emergency and detach from the coggrail I would guess that the breaking is done on the cogs also.

The track turner thus replaces the classic switch as in other mountain railroads. Habt Ihr das bemerkt oder wart Ihr von der Aussicht abgelenkt Did you notice or were you distracted by the view
