We used to sometimes stop at the Portage Glacier on the way down to the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska, and the blue color of the icebergs is truly amazing. You can see a little bit of it in this video. The pure blue comes from all the red color being absorbed, leaving the shorter wavelengths of the blue spectrum to scatter and reflect around inside and around the ice.

A piece of catastrophe tourism. Yes, of itself a very moving beautiful sight, but what it portends for our children and grandchildren should move us in quite other ways. One of which is to stop travelling on planes to see the end of the world.

I not that smart but what kept the iceberg alive was it's frozen base, when base goes there in nothing to hold. did you know that Bermuda sits on a similar pie or cake holder if the base would disintegrate it to would do the same

I’m adding a comment, why not just post a iceberg that you been recording for months, how about just make it happen so you don’t have to record an wait. it’s obviously good timing. Now you can lie about global warming, lmao

I look at that and turn the temperature up, a reflex action, if you will. The sauna thing, when you walk back naked through the forest back to your log cabin, don't you get cold, again Maybe build it in your log cabin; -)

Just a guess, but is it weight dispersal that causes it to roll It melts one side until it gets uneven and then adjusts itself to regain stability. a beautiful sight and the colours are breathtaking. Thank you.

Some may find this fascinating, I find it alarming, how these ice glaciers are disappearing after thousands of years, thanks to global warming, that's causing our planet to heat up.

Great video but it also kinda pissed me off that you cut it before the waves smash the bank in front of you. I waited an extra 2 minutes of my life for that. You owe me 2 minutes.

Yo I'm just gonna say this if you look further back the stream the water moving back there too y'all just woke up cathulu and he coming through whether you like it or not

That's the song says what have we done to the Rain, and this being nine years ago and this being 2024 actually what have we done to our planet 9 years later

To be able to witness a once in a lifetime event that probably took several thousand years to create. This was truly quite a powerful video. Thanks for posting.

Sooo much Respect to the camera person that shot this video W/O loud commentary that is a distraction of nature taking it's course. Kudos camera person, Kudos!

See if this was in America you would have the neophytes down at the waters edge to get a better view or whatever you all were safe at a elevated position.

We Engkish speakers who are fortunate enough to live in a olace where this is a regular occurance call this foundering. That island of ice foundered.

It makes you wonder what process culminated at that moment to cause it to roll. Truly an amazing sight. That magnificent blue water was gorgeous.

this is why icebergs scare me, imagine thinking you're safe next to a giant wall and then it gets up and walks away
how do you even predict this

reply

Unfortunately this is what we are doing to our planet, the ice is melting in both north and South Pole and the ripple effect is devastating!
reply

That's why it's not a good idea to climb onto or land helfopers on icebergs. The can roll over at any time during the melting of the iceberg.

Seems like something below flipped it over ice shelves usually break apart or breakoff but NEVER have i seen 1 just flip over by itself.
