It was interesting to hear your take on Swedish service quality as an American. I would personally not describe it crappy per se, rather it is specifically tailored to it's cultural context. They are probably going out of their way to do things that here are considered polite or good service to you that you just don't recognize or might misconstrue. The type of service that you would define as good, alot Swedes would find off-putting. Generally, we like to be left alone, and the service minded will respect that to some degree, even though I personally (being Swedish and all) find Swedish service personnel too helpful at times and invading of my personal space. If shopping for jeans for example, I would make a 180 degree turn at the door and leave the establishment simply if I get eye contact with the clerk and I can tell that he/she is a talker. It's weird, but we have alot of unspoken understandings and agreements in Sweden. There's alot of communication in silence under the surface that I'm fairly positive that Swedes don't even realize is going on, so it's taken for granted that everyone understand these things although it would be alot to ask of the uninitiated.

You don't have to tip, the servers are well paid and thay have a tip in the salary. Lickerstore are opened to 15 on Saturday. And are opened to 19 on a normal weekday and a few are opened to 20.
No, it's not that safe to walk alone. The robbery risk is big compared to other European countries.

Unlike the americans we think about our environmental effect. The toilets works just fine, it is nothing wrong with them. They are designed to consume a very little amount of water unlike american toilets. Somtimes i think USA is about 50 years behind in thinking of taking care of our planet.

7: 50 Pay toilets were tried here in the US back in the mid-1970s, but customers got mad and owners bore the brunt. Didn't work too well here. The door access boxes were gone by 1979.

Question for Swedish people: Do Swedes say 'Ey up' at all to say hello? Because we do that in Northern England and I've heard it's a 'Scandi' thing to say.

I'm an American and the idea of sitting in a restaurant and NOT being interrupted before even taking a bite to ask how everything is sounds like paradise.
