26 Miles Alone in West Virginia Eric: Seriously the best part of his videos. the laugh. One of a kind, and makes me laugh along with him. Always having a good time. At 53 minutes in, that my friend is what you would call, a mild case of onset desperation. However, I would tend to disagree when you say, you believe the next generations shouldn't have to go through the same trials and tribulations as the previous generations, and what they learned. I personally believe everyone, regardless, should experience some form of adversity, even if self induced. It's what teaches good work ethic, builds character, and above all else, teaches you something about yourself and what you're capable of. I have done over two dozen running ultra marathons, two of which were 500 kilometers in distance. You can't come out the other side the same person--ever, and as much hell you just put yourself through, you're a better person--every time.

-I was thinking about like some mistakes I've made in the past. And it's almost as if there's a sense in my mind that there's a reset -
button, and you can load the last checkpoint, but it's like, really understanding that there's no going back to re-do it, and there's -
nothing you could have done to prevent it, because the way you behaved at the time was the way you were capable of behaving -
at that time. And the decisions you've made were the decisions you've made with the best of your knowledge and the best of -
intentions, and you can only move forward from them. -
Came here for the hiking, stayed for Robbie's wisdom.

Your theory about how not making others struggle the way you've struggled should be a good thing. well, it's fundamentally flawed. Achievement, change and growth only occur via the struggle you would eliminate. If your mentality became commonplace (which it more or less has) we would end up with an entire society full of people who never struggled and as a result never grew, achieved or changed for the better.

Deep Woods OFF. Yes it works. I used to live in Maryland. I know all about bugs. Also, light weight long sleeved shirt, and a net for over your head. That's the problem with a internal frame pack in the summer, its like wearing a coat. What where you carrying in your pack if not food? You need a minimum of 3000 calories a day when hiking.

I often hike in Monongahela National Forest in WV and at low elevations lots of water but it goes up to 4000+ feet and up there it-s rare to find water. So I have to carry two Nalgene containers plus a Platypus. Right now I know exactly how you feel. Learned this lesson once and never again if I could help it. Great video!

Not enough food, AND low water Is really not that smart. If you get injured and need more food, you are stuffed, going overtime planned also with not enough food, not smart. All equals poor planning. You should have turned around early and taken the shortest route home.

Like your commentary on the walking in deep snow as a kid aspect. I agree we need to start recognizing individual talent and using each one to be who and what they are good at. As a team when we do this we all grow together as one strong tribe! Or consciousness -

You better have that tent zipped up tight or you-ll look like a prune in the morning when they drain every ounce of blood from ya

I've lived in California, Maine, New York State and City, Maryland, and Virginia, I've driven through most others, and I can say that West Virginia is one of the most beautiful places in Creation, darn fine people too

I took the cutoff trail. and no. there wasn't any water on that either -. The cutoff was called Long Mountain Trail, it looked like there was a spot for a stream but maybe only after a rainfall.
