Solo Overnight at the Bushcraft Camp - Fire, Cooking, Axe Work Da Ga: Awesome vid. Boy did that burger and steak look good. So. our caveman friends demise. I wouldn't think it was cancer. Wood, paper and other natural things give off less nasty stuff when compared to chemicals, synthetics etc. Now. smoke in an enclosed area and you have a concern with carbon monoxide. Our primitive friends probably didn't have the fires vented. My theory is that cancer in more a modern epidemic because of various man-made causes. Infection, tooth decay, common illness, trauma, insect borne illness, food borne illness, water borne illness and animal attacks probably killed a great majority of our primitive brothers and sisters. Fires in caves though probably killed several hundreds. thousands maybe even with the colorless, odorless carbon monoxide. Other than that. most likely simple stuff was their demise. Thanks again for a wonderful video. I really enjoy them. Interesting, informative, soothing.

Actually if you survived childhood around the caveman times you had quite a high life expectancy. Life expectancy dropped hugely in the middle ages but before that it was alright. There wasn't so many diseases as there was lower population densities (if you study populations in any species the higher the density the higher the rate of infection, it's a sorta natural population control. We were healthier (we ate less meat, more veg, fruit and nuts and exercised more regularly. Cancer seems more a thing caused by pollution and such (that last bit about cancer is just my hypothesis. If you're interested in all that though I'd highly recommend reading Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari - a fascinating book and very very well written.

Saw horse in NY. It's possibly your UK accent that is confusing. You use the 'r' and you short a vowel sounds like a long o vowel. Then your putting the ing on sawing. Sounds like you're saying soaring horse to us across the pond. Absolutely love your videos and I am learning so much I I'm a cancer patient on a small budget and your videos are a huge help. I'm choosing to live off-grid. my dad was navy Special forces and we're Native American so I I prefer the woods to an expensive boring apartment anyway. I am having great fun & a About to start making my own videos as an engineering & math prodigy. I am going to make sure I give credit to all you great instructors who taught me.

Any smoke will contain carcinogens and recent studies show that burning food or even cooking on a fire or BBQ can increase the risk of cancer but cancer is mainly a self destruction mechanism to stop cells getting too old (massive over simplification. I would expect any cave man to have an increased risk of cancer but never get it as they would die too young. Great videos really making me consider getting back to camping and even going 'rough'. I would love a video on the different types of uk trees and how to spot them and pros/cons etc

I think that people in the past didn't die from cancer because they died of other things first, like childbirth, infections, smallpox and so on. they didn't have antibiotics and hygiene ideas the same way we do. The same with heart attacks - they didn't really last long enough to get the diseases we associate more (by no means exclusively, but more) with old age. Hmm, sorry to intrude such depressing thoughts I guess we can be happy to learn the skills of the past and also be thankful for the advances of the future.

Most cavemen, or tribesman if you will, would have died from infection, if you didnt, you lived past the age of 5. From then on you could expect to live til you were at least 50 Most deaths in those days were caused mainly by wound infections, other, angrier tribesmen from elsewhere or social hierarchy. Standing on fish bones was apparently a big problem back then too as most societies were located not far from sick dank river valleys. Gotta love a bit mild septicaemia.

Super nice camp, Mike Well organized and obviously a good amount of thought went into its build. I love the rotating or swivel crane for your cooking pot and your bacon. I miss going to the butcher's shop in Thetford when I was stationed at RAF Lakenheath, Suffolk. We bought all our meat fresh including spare ribs. I couldn't believe that not too long before the Americans moved into Thetford the butcher used to throw ribs into the garbage can.

Re' cancer theory, nope. Although the effects of smoke definately would have had significant negative health affects. Apparently, although the death reate was steep especially with children, latest theories describe pre-historic mankind of being well capable of living into old age. It was the dawn of agriculture and large settlements that saw the rise in death rate and shortening of lifespans thanks to poorer diet and the prevelance of diseases.

The light shows amazing with your quality camera. the ember light reflecting in your eye colour. love the cough cough pine needle quip. I am new to rib eye steak and think it is better than sirloin. food tastes much better outdoors. you make the outdoors look safe warm and home. thanks. mind the smoke. consistently top quality videos. cheers.

Native Americans lived in tee-pees and they usually burned a fire in the center of it. although the tee-pee was designed kind of like a flue i would imagine that they still did breath in a good amount of direct smoke. Needless to say they had long lives if they didnt get trampled by buffalo or some other way.
