We finish building the roof of the tiny house/thatched roof hut and continue progress on making a mini village for my one year old daughter. Using water reed and long straw, we tile the thatch in layers to provide a thick insulating and water proof layer. For the walls, we use a cob mix of clay, sand and straw (an ancient primitive technology that is still used on buildings today. The ratio we used was: 4 parts sand, 1 part clay, 1 part straw (estimates. This we mixed together and moulded it to the hazel stick wall (wattle and daub. Wendy: Being born and raised in the city I truly appreciate your craft and art of building. You mentioned they used & still use dung for the walls. wouldn't that smell awful? How could they use shelters like that? I would think the moment you built a fire it would make the smell intense? Love all of your videos! Blessings from California

You ll need to create a nice little woodcraft interactive play area too, there are so many little projects that could be considered for children to be involved in. A mini village needs a communal area, but a playground too, along with a little craft-learning section for fun as well as practical and educational, including their own raised bed for growing plants

Absolutely love watching your videos. I've been building a wee hut for my nephews from some left over willow reeds from a community project. I got them from a scrap store but no clue where to get more to finish it off. Are all your materials sourced from farms, woods etc. Or could you suggest a supplier?

You've certainly have improved your thatching and mudding skills since the last build. Awesome display of abilities and a good pastime pretending that's for the baby's fun. Ah and perhaps you can save those seeds and plant them by the little pond so you can have material to fix leaks.

You should add manure to the daub to keep it from flaking and cracking. They used to add horse manure because the proteins and added fibers act as a kind of glue for the daub to bind better.
Love the videos, keep making content. I can t get enough of TA outdoors and TA Fishing!

if you make a quick lime slurry (roast limestone then put into water and use the slurry formed) to whitewash your mini round house. The whitewash will help act as a what proofing layer. Saw that on time Team. Wear gloves and eye protection through the whole process

I really enjoy watching all the different builds you do. Doing one for your daughter is so sweet of her dad and grandfather. She's gonna look back on this one day and share it all with her children. She has an amazing dad and grandfather.
