KANSAS: INCREDIBLE Rural Towns And Their Unique Personalities Great video. I know this area well (my mother is from Hiawatha, about an hour from where you started) I absolutely loved being out on the farm as a kid, but of course by the time I became a teenager I thought these sort of places were boring. Now I understand their quiet beauty and charm. Even as a 50 year old, theyre probably still not for everyone. You definitely need either a large family to keep you distracted &/or a serious hobby (but its a lot easier to have, say, a metal shop in places like these where real estate is dirt cheap) because you cant just depend on urban entertainments to keep you amused. Anyway, these places look a lot more like opportunity these days. A nice home on potentially several acres with maybe some room for horses and a serious greenhouse &/or hobby workshop for way less than a shoebox sized starter condo in a place like San Francisco Its a no-brainer for me and I think a LOT of people are going to be seeing the wisdom of these places as the USA continues its slow (or maybe fast) motion collapse in the years ahead.

I grew up in NE Kansas. I went to a small Christian school and we’d go to St Mary’s and play them in basketball. Very religious. They’d have a priest pray and bless every game. They were actually a very good team and it was a very competitive game. We were 2 of the top 3 teams in our conference. NE Kansas is a great place. Glad you enjoyed it. We take a lot of pride in our anti-slavery history and hence we are very pro-Union. Our cultural and historical connections to the NE of the country may surprise some. A lot of locals consider themselves northerners as much as midwesterners.

Look at that wind! I never could figure out if Kansas sucks or Nebraska blows.
They both have things to offer.
Wamego is a lot prettier in the summertime. Lots of great treas!
As someone who used to follow the Sooners, you know that the only problem with the Cockeyed Pig dive bar is all the KU Jayhawks stuff on the walls. Gosh the Big 8 conference was a fun conference. Too bad it got dissolved. Everyone beat up on K-State back them. I always had a soft spot in my heart for K-State since it was my grandmother's alma mater. She was the first woman to graduate from it.

Greetings from a sunny 5C South London, UK. Where I live we have a preserved windmill and for information the vanes that make the mill turn are called sails or blades, they can be covered with either canvas or wooden slats to increase their aerodynamic capability. Incredible luck the folk of Kansas have with so much limestone around, unfortunately, due to acidic pollution in the UK, a lot of old buildings made from limestone and sandstone just crumble away.

There's an old legend around here that says there is a centuries old war between Saint Mary's and Silver Lake. Supposedly, Silver Lake is overrun by werewolves, and the vampires that run Saint Mary's keep them in check so that the everyday people living there never know. Stull is not too far from here, and legend has it. There is a portal to another hell like dimension there, and most believe that's where all these damn vamps and wolves came from.

You missed out on the history of the Columbian Theater in Wamego. It's named after the Columbian Exposition in Chicago. That eagle over the entrance was from the American pavilion at the World's Fair. If you had gotten in you would have seen some of the only surviving art work from the pavilion. A wealthy person from Wamego was impressed, bought up a bunch of stuff from the pavilion after the fair closed and had it shipped to Wamego.

I'm glad you visited Holton, KS. I visited there months ago and it was during reunion week. So we walked by the building where they were going to have the high school reunion and there were a couple of classmates in there already (this was like during the late afternoon. I like visiting small towns because the pace is not as hectic as that of a big city. And the people are friendly.

The crime is low and poverty is low, because these people have religion in their lives, which is referred to as old school or backward, but success lies in obedient to God and not the Vatican, which is an evil corporation and works for the rich bankers and the world elite. Evil entity indeed and should be boycotted at all cost. Respect to old school catholics.

I also have a VR headset And YT allows me to watch any video in VR so watching your videos with VR goggles it's like I'm actually there. This is so awesome.

I'm from SE Kansas and sadly small towns are dead and dying. Seems like most small towns revolve around the school. Its nice to see how respectful and appreciative u are when your looking around. Did you get a chance to go to Coffeyville KS Some cool history including the Dalton Gang.

I live pretty close to Wamego and you are correct about Christmas time. If you go there at night, they have a speaker running on Christmas music constantly, you can take pictures with Santa at the old school house, and there are a lot of lights to see around the park.

Last year we drove out to Bazine in west central Kansas for my grandfather’s funeral. Some of the towns we drove through appeared as if they hadn’t changed in 100 years. There’s something oddly fascinating about these small rural towns. Very peaceful.

Luv seeing towns that fly the American flag abundantly! And I'm not American- lived there for awhile back in the late 70's/80 & was so impressed with the Patriotism of Americans. Forever in my heart & it's worth the fight to keep America great!

At around 1: 40: . they are not recognized by the Vatican. Sadly, the way the Vatican has been operating these days, I think that would be considered a blessing! This group has always been faithful to the true teachings of the Catholic faith.

Lord Spoda If you ever have the opportunity to tour Hiawatha Kansas do it in the fall. Its not known as the city of beautiful maples for nothing. Also nationally recognized for the oldest running Halloween parade and the famous Davis memorial.
reply

Hello Lord Spoda. It may interest you to learn that the current pope had a friendly relationship with the Society of Pius X in Argentina, and he has approved of people attending mass and receiving the sacraments here.

Holton KS was a very nice place we visited. Also we liked Topeka. My Great Grandparents owned a home in Latham KS. They both passed away in St Louis 2 weeks apart. Not sure whatever happened to their Latham Home.

St. Mary’s is. what it is. I don’t think you should call them traditional Catholics. People are nice, if you’re white and hetero. They have kind of taken over the town. It’s essentially a cult.
reply

My father was from Topeka many years ago he was born in 1900 I don’t even tell people I’m 61. But you didn’t tell us the racial make up of the town. I’m very curious to know what that would be!

What is nice is that Taggers have not tag all over the beauty of these city. Oz is wonderful. So much is built in 1800 and the building are beautiful Thanks again for great video s

That town isn't going to lose population when they are too busy making babies. We had some of those Catholic schools in my hometown of Louisville, KY. They tend to get a better education.

Many of our small towns that are 30 minutes drive or so from larger urban areas have many young families moving in. Typically they have the highest rated public schools in the state.

Isn't it St Pius X as in 10th, X being the roman numeral for 10. Pope Pius X being the tenth Pope Pius(1903 to 1914. Enjoying all these Vlogs, just catching up on the back catalogue.

Fun gamer fact about Topeka Kansas: This was the first city to receive the first shipments of the wildly popular game Pokemon Red and Blue versions in the United States! TopekaCHU!

Thanks for this video, it was both very informative and interesting. I’m very impressed with these rural towns in KS. The people of these areas should be proud of themselves.

I'm a 90s baby. I'm old school. I remember both Little Rascals and Wizard of Oz. Two great movie's. I am from a small Texas town. Although that town ain't so small no more.
reply

Back in October I very briefly visited Salina, wish I had had more time to check out some places wouldn’t have minded visiting that Oz museum that looks pretty cool
reply

Sounds like the town is populated by traditional families with the father present in the home. I wonder if a conservative Baptist could do well there Just sayin!
reply

In one sentence the conservatism of a school is mocked and in the next the low rate of poverty is wondered about.
Some Leftists will never connect the dots.

St Marys looks like a lovely town. My ex girlfriend and her family were hardcore Catholics. Lets just say they aren't very welcome to outsiders.

Thank you for another fine video. It's fun to travel around the country via your camera. Also, Saint Pius X = Saint Pius the Tenth (Roman numeral.

Are you a friend of Dorothy
Speaking of, those brick designs on that sidewalk looked like swastikas from what it appeared like in the video)

reply

My great grandfather was born and raised inWamego. That part of the family was watermelon farmers from Tennessee, that migrated there in 1890s
reply

Live in a nice small town or a big city where there are people living on the street and you have to avoid human feces and needles on the sidewalk.
