Larry Sunday: As the previous owner of two Toyota Avalons that I loved and a Lexus ES that I traded on another Avalon I have to say that if Toyota has been striving to make the front ends of their cars disgustingly ugly they have achieved their goal. BIG TIME They dont build a car that I would be proud to own. Subaru appears to be going the other way - from ugly to pleasant looking. Nissan, who previously held the record for ugly cars, is now doing quite well in the styling department. I cant imagine the executives at Toyota thinking that the cars they are producing are good looking - big gaping whale mouth openings covered with black painted chicken wireare not good looking. I love Toyota quality but sure hate their styling.

I must say, the new Highlander is gaudy f-ugly in all the pics and videos. My those are huge hips you have Heres hoping real-world visuals of it fare better. As Hyundai/KIA entice and impress with their svelte, cohesive and advanced exterior designs (Palisade/Telluride)--which command presence on the road--Toyota and Subaru introduce weird (Highlander) and mundane (Ascent, almost embarrassing designs. If an Uber driver pulled up in his/her new Highlander, Id probably politely decline, saying, Thats OK, Ill Lyft it. Definitely not a vehicle to be seen in.

They look boring. Most new cars are only offering an incremental change and we supposed to celebrate/rejoice that the new XY has a completely earth shattering mind blowing new headlight, or now with an led bulb, a shiny grille, or a new name and its only more? Wish we could skip a couple generations and just get the 3rd 4th. They could design a new improved car quarterly, and build the 4th every year or well never get to fly them like Doc Brown.

Didnt the previous Ford Escape Hybrid sold use a traditional mechanical AWD system? I thought it did. I owned two V6 models with the 3L Mondeo engines. I thought the Hybrid and V6 models both received optional AWD systems. The prices for the models were very similar as they were upgraded to the base engines. The base NA four cylinders were FWD only.

#HybridHighlander is Number One in significance and the Outback is a #Wagon, I could not have said it better myself. I hope Ford does not hold a grudge vis a vis your placement of the Escape. ;)

Dont use words like premium and upscale for non-luxury vehicles. People buy them then complain on car forums when they realize the vehicles isnt up to par to the luxury vehicle they sold/traded in.

I hoped that the highlander is a feet longer, Very disappointed in Toyota, The third row is useless as usual, I will just buy the Palisade or the Telluride instead.

I agree that the Nissan Versa might be cheap and inexpensive to maintain. but its so gutless Test drive one, and theres faster go-carts It felt like i get more power from a blender.
