2024 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness First Look
video description
Ultimately I'm just never going to buy a car that has a CVT. I defintely wouldn't trust a CVT for the kind of trails we have in Colorado.
That said, I know Suburu will sell a ton of these. It's relatively cheap and it can do well on something more challenging than a dirt road.

I would not touch this engine with a bargepole and nor should you. It has direct injection, but no port injector. We bought a 2019 Forester with the same engine and after 25, 000 miles of a mixture of town, highway and inter-state driving and 2 years ownership, the uneven running of the engine was unacceptable especially at low speeds of 20-35 mph. Sadly, we did not know about this until we bought it. I thought at first, it was because of the boxer set-up, which are renowned for slow uneven running, but it wasn't. Our Subaru dealer said they de-coke the valves at a cost to me of around 300! Incidentally, we always used top-tier gasoline. We got rid of it as soon as we could.

The nose and tail are a bit of an improvemnet over the other Wilderness models but still dubious. The wheels are way nicer looking. Those wheel arches are. something. That door cladding is heinous though.

That grill is a face only a mother could love. idk why ruggedized has to mean ugly for Subaru's designers. The orange on the roof rails is also pretty unsightly.

Not gonna lie, I kinda like the wilderness treatment on the Crosstrek. Weirdly I don't like the Forester or outback wilderness editions

With that CVT good luck taking that anywhere but fire roads. See the work TFL has does with the Subarus they can get their hands on.

That mass of side plastic with big Gold Crosstrek is cheesy and gaudy. I'm reminded of the previous generation overdone Civic Type R.
