Lincoln Is Beating Lexus At Their Own Game With The 2023 Corsair Plug In Hybrid

For 2023 Lincoln refreshed the Corsair Grand Touring (aka the Corsair PHEV) to give it better range, more gadgets and about 300% more grille. Seriously, check out the massive maw. Aside from the hungry looks, the Corsair is one of our top picks in the compact luxury SUV category because it's so easy to live with. Thanks to the 14 kWh battery you can easily stretch your fill ups from days to months and even if you never charge the battery you'll be getting over 30 MPG and 266 horsepower. The ride is sublime, the cabin is quiet and it's the only option in the segment that will steer itself on the highway.

One of, if not the biggest, feature Lexus buyers like is reliability. They know odds are very good that their Lexus will be problem-free for a long time (and hold a lot of residual value. Ford and Lincoln on the other hand can be counted on to have endless problems and to be worth pennies on the dollar when you go to sell it in a few years. Lincoln is basically the Wish version of Lexus, but they shockingly charge as much or more to the genuine article.

They may be better than lexus but I don't see nobody buying these like it do lexus. Not in my part of the country. I'll take the boogie rav4 before I take the boogie Ford excape.
And I don't want to hear that shit about people don't buy luxury card for a reliability that's a damn lie. People will stop by and lexuses years ago if it wasn't about reliability. Consumer reports ain't talkin about shit they don't keep cause beyond a few years.

I love how the Corsair looks especially on the inside, i definitely think it feels more premium than the NX, not by a lot imo but you can notice it. I do like the tech in the NX more, and the extra hp and range is nice. If I was looking for a vehicle in this segment those 2 would be at the top of my list for sure. It is kind of puzzling that we don't get a heat pump in the Corsair, but i guess thats what you lose for the cheaper price

If you're a fan of Consumer Reports reliability, hold on to your hats. The Corsair ranks higher than the Lexus NX. Yep, CR gave it 5/5 vs 4/5 for the Lexus NX. One quick correction: The Corsair, unlike the regular Hybrid Escape does use an eAWD system with a 50kW motor on the back, but it behaves more predictably than the Lexus eAWD system in our testing.

Hidden gem for this segment for sure! Agree with your picks at the end, the XC60 is phenomenal if you can spend a little more.
I think the Acura slumps on sales due to the goofy/awkward/terrible center stack in front inside a sea of piano black plastic with a side of ohgodwhy trackpad. One test drive and it's lets test drive something else.

This whole category of premium / luxury brand compact SUV is insanely overpriced. Most of the base models come with FWD yet start over 40k. All AWD versions in this segment cost more than a 3. 3 I6T 3-row Mazda CX-90. Can't wait for the CX-70 to arrive, so much more for the money than all those branding rip-offs.

That 2. 5 4 cylinder, Ford has been using since 2009, is an old Mazda engine block from back when they used to be together. Ford has recently updated/revised it. I love Lincoln's products, but it's a fact that it's going to have more issues than a Lexus, Acura or any of the Japanese competitors when it gets old.

To be fair. It's not hard to build a better Lexus than Lexus. Lexus/Toyota vehicles are cheaply made and atrocious.
Also: the MKC was NOT soft. It was middling/average in suspension comfort only. Definitely not soft. If this is firmer. that's REALLY bad. The MKC wasn't nearly soft ENOUGH.

I hate the new grille, imo the old grille looked much better.
Reliability seems inconsistent at best (other than the hybrid drivetrain) and it's overpriced. Would only consider if offered with big discounts.
edit: dirt-magnet-black interior trim in all the worst places

That's awesome to hear about the good reliability. It annoys me when people complain about Ford/Lincoln copying Toyota's hybrid setup. It's such a good system, I think they're smart for learning from Toyota's experience. And now they get to reap the rewards of efficiency and reliability

I d take the Corsair over the dressed up rav4. Luxury is styling interior design and materials, next level performance and handling and smooth ride
Lincoln does all that well. Lexus could only dream of being anywhere near as fortunate as Lincoln Acura genesis Mazda etc

I cross shopped all the cars mentioned. Alex is spot on, they all try to be sporty and techy. But comfort and luxury is job 1 for Lincoln and it immediately showed in a test drive. It is on a different level when it comes to smooth, calm riding. Bought and drove one home!

Very nice, comprehensive Review Alex, thanks. We find the Corsair a very appealing car and it sits on top of the shopping list when our current lease is up. We love the exterior and interior design and can't wait to drive one.

They put effort into the chimes and sounds it makes, and that's all they could come up with. Compare that to a PS1 startup sound and other chimes from 20+ years ago. Sound design has gotten so much worse.

I forgot to mention that I LOVE ratchet style front headrests! Every single vehicle should have that standard for head and neck comfort! My cheap 2003 Saturn L200 has 4 way ratchet style headrests.

The Lincoln seats are over engineered. They move in 28 directions but they are hard, so they are very uncomfortable. Just stick to your ford fusion stats which are very comfy.

There is a reason everyone is buying Rav-4 Prime. Because the NX just doent cut it. People with and brains dont waste it on a badge. The NX and UX are both hurting the brand.
reply

Too much plastic for a 66K car IMO. Lincoln cars depreciate much faster than other cars in their class which makes them a great buy after they are three years old.

The day this video was released Ford recalled 169, 000 vehicles. You just CAN'T compare Lexus quality and Ford's (Lincoln) quality. Lexus is in a different league.

The Corsair hybrid is a total sleeper. I wish more consumers considered it as there final choice. And it has a real name what's not to love!
