Ferrari 488 Pista v McLaren 720S on the road. in the wet - Supercar review - Autocar

The Ferrari 488 Pista and McLaren 720S are two of Autocar's favourite supercars of the moment. Both are mid-engined, with turbocharged V8 engines making absurd amounts of power - more than 700bhp apiece. They're great track cars and we've already tested them both, extensively, on track. But what are they like as road cars? And what are they like when the going gets ordinary: as in, rain comes down and there are speed limits and other traffic to consider? Are they still enjoyable? Join our editor-at-large Matt Prior and our special correspondent Mauro Calo - world-record drifter and the man who is hired to make 'the talent' look good on films and TV shows - as they discuss these two brilliant supercars and decide which is best

So when are you Euro's going to test the C8? Waiting for the Z06 and then perhaps the ZR1? Now there's going to be two models to support the easy going, arguable power, especially at a 100 and below of the maiden ship C8. It's already proven itself 0-60 and even 0-100. Would it keep up with these supercars? I doubt it very much, BUT, until you folks on the other side of the pond critique it as fairly as you all treated this comparison, I would trust your input but will wait for that to happen.

This is unfair. 488pista is track focused car. 720s is not. 720s vs 488GTB is fair comparison. Although they do this because 720s is so much better than 488GTB. I don't get is that they compare track focused, limited production, over half milion USD Ferrari to reguler McLaren and complain how worse McLaren cars are. What about all the LT cars they make. They should be compared to cars like that especially 765LT in terms of a price point.

honestly, why are we even picking between these 2 cars? You should be getting both. Keep the Pista in the garage/home on display and only drive on special occasions. Mileage will hurt the value, but if you can keep that low, the car will literally pay for itself AND for the 720s. Take the 720s, drive it daily, track it. It's hypercar fast, more comfortable than many family cars.

The McLaren looks modern and from a different decade than the Ferrari. Very much well thought out for every day modern world. The Ferrari looks simpler, more track focused, from a time past, more race car and maybe not so easy to live with. But for me the 488 Piste feels like a more special car, if a lot less sophisticated. Both lovely! -

720s hands down!
Quicker 0-60, 0-100
Better chasis
Lighter
More powerful
More comfortable
Nicer/More spacious interior
Better all around visibility
The Pista's nicer sounding engine damn sure doesn't make up for all those deficiencies to the 720s! Are you kidding me

WRT the turn signals being located on the Ferrari steering wheel, in general, it's best to signal before you turn the wheel, not after. So there should not be an issue with the switches being on the wrong side when the wheel is turned.

What a nonsense, review was witch car is better for road use and Mcl is faster, more comfortable, better visibility and equipment but we like Ferrari? They should wait LT model then to make review 720S is so in front of its time.

Ferrari looks boring. Can't say there's one that catches the eye. It's like toyota. Good engine, but dull.
They need a proper designer, maybe borrow one from lambo or mclaren.

How old is the 720s. Every car designed over the last 5years has been benchmarked against it. And they come up short. I think maclaren needs a new benchmark for the next 5 years

I'll take the McLaren put novitec exhaust you have the exotic looks the swing up doors everything. pista the natural doors not as exciting and exotic crappy sound as well
