To watch part one visit: We pit the MINI Countryman against its stylish rivals from Alfa Romeo, Citroen and Nissan To see more videos visit Mirko: there are just two things I don't understand. first, at least in my country Countryman is over 1k eur more expensive than DS4, regardless of the version/engine choice. I don't know for UK, but it would beat Mini in -cost- section!
and second. I do believe that Countryman is far more practical than DS4 due to its general shape. what I don't understand is, how is possible that -professional- automotive journalist doesn't understand that DS4 is a -coupe- (hence fixed rear windows) version of C-segment hatchback. but with addition of (narrower) rear doors! which makes it -immensely practical coupe- and not -less practical family hatch- (regardelss of how much does it stands out of the crowd)

Strange how peoples opinions on things vary so much. I have the Alfa, I-m 6'2- and have absolutely no problem with head or legroom in the front or back. I love the bluetooth handsfree, stereo sounds great and the DNA system changes the character of the car from sporty to relaxing at the flick of a switch. Nothing has gone wrong at all over the 10k miles since I bought it new. Its returning 53 mpg av in mainly swift A road driving. Lastly it still looks absolutely lovely in Alfa red with the gloss black roof and titanium alloys, especially when its had its weekly bath. ;)

Having owned over 40 cars a couple of comments. None of these cars are perfect and some have inexcusable flaws. Non opening rear windows are just not acceptable. I find the Mini styling and design hideous, OK that may just be me. I have owned Alfa's in the past and found servicing and repair costs to be on the high side though they are lovely to look at. The Juke is a Marmite car you either love it or hate it, I actually really like the looks and admire the balls of Nissan to do something different, But hey you pays yer money and buy what you like.

Hi, i have just done long test drives, in these and a few more, i liked the alfa but not great for the child car seat, Ds4 same thing, juke was so bouncy, was fun to drive but very bumpy, and i struggled with the blind spots. so yes i have just got a mini countryman, 3 main reasons, 1: easy to get baby in and out, 2: the tlc package is fab an cheap. compared to the others. 3: running cost, cheap insurance, cheap road tax, and with the 0% deals they are doing who can moan. an i have never owed a mini before.

I like how many people not liking Juke. In terms of value for money this is one of the best cars on the road.
And if you get the manual transmission and put the sports mode on, you will know it is a hell of fun car. And unique one also.
At least don't talk until you try it or see some reviews at least.

Oh I'm sorry but who's going to pick the not so mini countryman over the truly magnificent Giulietta? IT'S AN ALFA! Honestly if you ask anyone who works for Autoexpress which one is best and, more importantly, which one they'd have it'd be the blood red Giulietta.
reply

it depends on the situation. As I don't have kids, this wouldn't bother me as I would rarely have people in the back, and when there is, I would have climate control/ac on and they would not need to roll down the windows.

So the juke has a flat load bay, fold down seats with no lip, good storage upfront but has slight headroom issue in the rear and you mark it last compared to how you describe the Citroen and Alfa? Hidden agenda with juke?
reply

That is not correct. They made cars like these so you can enjoy in fast ride and fast acceleration and still have some usefull space in your car. But that isn't possible with Juke for example.
reply

The final result should be more like: the DS4 is the best result if you want a hatchback that stands out, and the Mini is the best if you want people to make fun of you behind your back.
