It-s time for an almighty off-roader showdown! We-ve got three of the best 4x4s in the business going head-to-head over a series of challenges to find the best off-roader available to buy today! First up we-ve got Mat in the Land Rover Defender, with a 2-litre diesel engine which produces 240hp. Alongside him, we-ve got the Mercedes G350, which is powered by a 2. 9-litre 6 cylinder diesel to produce 286hp. Then finally we have the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, which has a 2-litre turbocharged petrol with 272hp. So the Defender may be down on power - but power isn-t everything when you go off-road! So will the tech that-s packed into the new Defender give it the advantage?

The Jeep is the one you would want to use in all seriousness on that track. If you were geting in and out of the rain, with kids and whatever. you just woudnt want to use the other two. Change the points system, it's daft. If a vehicle cannot do a course, it doesnt get a point for sitting it out. it's out. It should get -3. Great cars. Hard to beat the LR for the urban commute or anything really except Vegas where the G-Wagen would look so dumb its makes sense, and its got herbs. But for real offraoding and the amount of mods you can do, the Wrangler for dirty and sandy areas.

I don-t know about the results of this challenge. I may be bias to the Jeep because I am an American in northern Michigan where there is at least one Jeep per square mile, but I still think the Jeep won. They didn-t take cost or reliability into consideration. No normal person who can afford a G-Wagon is going to take it off roading. The Land Rover-s air suspension will end up failing, destroying the ground clearance and their engines have been problematic in the past. When it comes down to value for money, there-s no beating the Jeep.

These tests courtesy of Mat are great fun to watch for people like me living in a nowadays depressing and very expensive Lebanon now short of nearly all utilities and basic services. My being a mighty happy previous owner of a Land Rover V8 Defender 110, obviously my heart leaned over in favour of the new Defender, but all said and done, all three 4WD cars are great, each having its own affinities and strengths as well. For me all three cars are winners in their own respective rights.

So basically this video is based on if you were going to RENT one of these brand new which one would you rent? . No how about doing a video based on which one would you OWN? Because let's face it Landrovers are shitboxes when it comes to reliability, and Mercedes are money pits when it comes to maintaining and repairs and either one of them is not half as reliable as the jeep. Final conclusion, buy the new Ford Bronco! Better then all 3 of them. The real Bronco not the sport.

Weird to think that out of these three, the Wrangler would probably be the most reliable. I've heard horror stories about the Land Rover Defenders and Mercedes at one point or another will have nightmarish problems, but here in the states the Wranglers have been the most reliable Jeeps in there line up. But compared to a Toyota 4Runner in the states, 300, 000 miles with hardly any issues is hard to beat.
AMERICA, F-CK YEAH!

After having only driven a jeep for a few days I have so many questions. Do they not sell the diesel wrangler in the uk? Why were the tires not aired down(my have missed that part but thought it was common for offroading? Why didnt they use hill ascent or hill descent control while in 4 low? And for the circuit race the jeep should have been in 4auto (if they had 4auto back then.

I wonder who would take the Defender for some tough work in Africa. I'm joking, of course nobody would. Who in their right state of mind would go for a car that relies on electronics to do off-roading? Nobody! Electronics fail in harsh conditions. You need a car that can do it mechanically. The Defender is a toy. A clever one, but still a toy.

It's nice to have something that can go anywhere with ease, but there's no thrill in that! Part of the enjoyment of off-roading is the adrenaline of -am I gonna make it through this obstacle-, and the stories that come from failure or success. There's also the 'skill' vs 'computer' part of the enjoyment too.

You want off road truck buy Rubicon. Defender is just unreliable. The score is GB BS. my god I would not take your defender to the forest that is almost tip over. Complete bs. Your Defender is worse than any Toyota, even Toyota would be do better Defender.

Defender is at sure the best car
Very important point is that is not necessary to be a pilot to handle your car
The car will do it for you
Ps: I m a Mercedes- fan
But the best All terrain and value for money car is the Defender
