Do Head Gasket Sealers Actually Work (FULL 2yr TEST with Engine Teardown) darryl: I had a 165 Mercruiser (GM straight 6 used in trucks cars and boats. Water (coolant) was leaking where the head meets the block. The leak (closed cooling system ) was not leaking into the oil or into a cylinder. I added Barsleak to the coolant and used that motor for another 7 years. of high RPM use. I think Barsleak is now under another name but I know it can work with the right leak.

REALLY well done. While a mechanic in a bottle is something that people have varying opinions on, and I get why I feel like in a pinch it isn't a bad option. If the vehicle is pretty much borked, to begin with, unless you sold it to someone willing to deal with that issue, it is not worth shelling out to fix it. I will say though that the idea of sodium silicate getting into the engine is a bit scary as that's what they use to seize engines up so. if I had to use that, I think I would go with something else just to be safe. The thing I do find interesting is despite that vehicle DRINKING coolant, there was no visible steam coming out the exhaust.

Quality over quantity. One great video now and again is better than a bunch of low quality videos. Good job. I enjoyed this one. In the end doing a proper head gasket job is the way to go if you want your car long term and gasket sealer is fine if you're gonna junk it soon.

Maaaan Chris! This one is one of my fav videos now! A lot of info! A lot of work on this video and we appreciate it! It was so Interesting, I feel lil jealous you find cars that cheap and fun to work on your country but I'm glad that I can see you working on them!

I used Bars Radiator StopLeak, and it seemed to do okay. I had to add it twice, the first time it lasted about 8-9 months, and the second I actually ended up getting a different car after about 3 months, so i'm not sure exactly how long it would have held up.

well, that answers that question. so did you get a Pontiac Sol? a Miata? a Honda delSol? tell me!
thanks for the tip, my dads PT cruser has a worped head and we were quoted 2, 000 to resurface the head with 30day warrante

chrisfix Could you use it multiple times? Like if it sealed for 2 years and then failed, could you do it again? I understand not in this case, given the warping block, but what about if the gasket had given out instead?

Man, the end of an era. I remember the video where you bought it, and then the video where you bought another jag, just to strip it for parts, and fix it up. Hope he finds a jag he likes as well as this one, Chris.
