Driving Your Car Like This is Illegal (But I Do It Anyways) behexen250: To the person with the Mazda 6 turbo problem, you most likely don't need a new turbo. Unless you have a really odd problem, the turbo not working wouldn't limit the engine speed to 4000 rpm. It sounds like your car is in limp mode, and that's usually something electrical. And if that's the case, you need to check for codes. If the problem is turbo related, its more likely something like the waste gate isn't working properly. It gets monitored by the PCM, and can definitely give the exact problem you're describing. Its not a big job, and the parts are not too expensive. If you're willing to take a chance because you can't get a good diag, just replace the waste gate. No guarantees, but its the safest guess.

Coasting Illegal because it's not safe? Gotta be one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. Clearly whomever came up with this has no clue what so ever how to drive because, in fact, it's just the opposite If you drive in the winter on bad roads, neutral is your BEST friend as its PROPER use will save your butt. You're driving along and all of a sudden the car loses traction and you start to slide. Most peoples first reaction is to let off the gas. WRONG Assuming you're driving an automatic, letting off the gas without putting the car in neutral will often cause the rear wheels to lock up due to engine braking, and in the words of Paul Simon. you be Slip Sliding Away As long as you react quickly enough, simply putting the car in neutral will usually cause the car to stop slding and straighten back out. I drove and 88 then a 95 Camaro 120 miles a day in Chicago back and forth to work and never, not once did I ever spin out and I've always driven way faster than I probably should. I've driven over a half million miles and not a single accident (other than suicidal critters - deer seem to be depressed the most) They both had manual transmissions which made this process super fast (just push in the clutch, but the same principal applies to automatics. If you're such a terrible driver that putting a car in neutral causes you to lose control then please, for everybody's safety, turn in you license and take public transportation.

Scotty, love your show, work in wholesale jewelry, 8x markups at most jewelry stores. I've been wrong on suggestions for repairs in (auto) comments before, and you called me out, Thanks. I really suggest people buy diamonds via pawn shops or auctions, when I started in my business Testers where now a 150 will check for synth diamond. Not my show but like you want to share experience in saving money for my consumers. I'm doing well in life and want others to do so as well. Again Thanks for everything you do PS On my field less than 0. 05 percent of diamonds are new to the market, the gross majority are reset and remarked. Much love, you have helped me and friends with so many repairs.

Hmmmm. .. . my car does not have an engine nor a transmission. It does have a motor and a reduction gear, and it will coast quite nicely if you hold the accelerator pedal between go and stop. A Nissan Leaf battery electric vehicle. Better than 100 MPGe. .. . the ' e ' is for equivalent (calculation). The ' stop ' portion of the accelerator pedal is regenerative braking which uses the electric motor as a generator to slow the vehicle while putting power back into the battery (gas tank). Since I bought this car over 2. 75 years ago my Ford F-100 pick-up has not moved from it's parked location. No need for the Ford Coasting? YES

I recently purchased a used 2008 Pontiac g6. I did a little research on it and heard the engine and transmission have few issues, but the steering and suspension are junk. Some people said it was so bad the car could go out of control at highway speeds. However since there was a recall on, I was able to get that issue fixed for free. Has 170K miles on it. Needed something to get me to work and back.

I just want to point out that unless you drive a really old car. coasting in modern day cars uses 0 MPG as the momentum keeps the engine running and the fuel flow basically shuts off. If you put it into neutral however, the engine will have to use some fuel to keep the engine running. Don't believe me, next time just going down the hill, look at your instant MPG meter thingy, it'll read 99. 9.

Hey Scotty My father's Honda Pilot mid 2000's needed a jump. well his cables were 30 years old so he borrowed mine, to no effect. The next day I broke them out again and the tow driver didn't get a spark, the cables melted the night before what makes good cables good, and bad cables bad? I've jumped a few cars with these cables but my fathers bad battery and wires was just too much

same in canada. not even in gear with the clutch pushed down, rebuilt? here in british columbia, it needs to be inspected first before it can be re-registered. the problem with that is private companies can do the inspections, even of their own repairs. so if you buy it then complain about it, its your word vs theirs if was not repaired properly or them saying you damaged it again.

As a bit of a computer buff, I used to be excited about computer integration in modern cars. and there are some perks, like tuning. However, I don't like the complexity and I'd rather electronics be at a minimum. maybe circa 90s? My brand new Taco has toyota safety sense with sensors everywhere, not looking forward to the day they start failing.

I used to use Kentucky Overdrive often on long trips. That was putting my manual transmission into neutral and shutting off the engine on long downgrades. It worked for me because my cars rarely had power steering or power brakes. When the momentum dropped off, just had to turn the ignition back on, put it in 3rd gear and let out the clutch.
