Chevy vs Chrysler, Which is Worse Darrick Cato: I love your videos, but I wonder sometimes if some of your talk of the unreliability of GM, and Chrysler vehicles isnt hyperbole to some extent. Not trying to argue with you, because Im not a mechanic just an enthusiast. I live in pickup truck country and all three brands are strong around here. I see more old beat up Fords than any other though. Usually if you see old GM trucks they are either restored a lot, or rusted all to hell, but still good to go. I have an 83 Dodge with the good ole 318, and it looks and runs pretty good for its age, but they are few and far between. I live in mid Missouri, and the most common older cars I see are 90s through 00s. Most of them are Ford Focus and Fusion, GM cars/mini vans(Mostly powered by a Chevy V6 or the Buick 3800, but I see a lot Chrysler cars from that era too(PT Cruiser and Van most common. Also I see a ton of Jeeps, and I find older Jeeps to be super reliable(especially the 4. 0 I6) as long as you dont get an early 4. 7 V8 Grand Cherokee(they should have kept the 318, or made a smaller Hemi. As far as this decade goes I see a ton of Chrysler 200Cs, the Chevy Cruz, and Ford Focus. Maybe that is because they are the cheapest cars to buy, or the best looking of the economy cars(probably are especially the Chrysler) I dont know. Maybe they will all disappear in a few years it remains to be seen. I do actually have an odd question for you Scotty. Do you think there is ever a point when it might pay off to buy a nice luxurious vehicle that maybe has a dubious reliability reputation? For example around here there are lots of nice Cadillacs for super cheap(build quality and Northstar issues. If someone bought one cheap enough could they actually be getting a deal?

Except Chevy has been plagued with horrible transmission issues You dont know it because people who buy those junks trade them in and have the warranty repair the transmissions Where as Dodge usually gets a lot of miles before breaking down Funny you still beat on Dodge just because fiat ownes them Fiat has really done nothing to hurt the Dodge/Ram brand other than the pro master/city its all been good In fact, they are still majority built in the United States Where as ford and Chevy are notI think you need to give the new cars from Dodge some respect and start looking at them before judging them because they are fiat also fiat ownes Ferrari, and other high end markets, so obviously they are doing something right And its not fiat but, Fiats are for the poorer group, whereas Dodge and Chrysler are for middle to higher class depending on the horsepower you buy And you already know where Ferrari stands

0: 35 - So what would be a good first car to buy for a high school graduate? I was thinking a used 7 year-old Toyota 4Runner or Camry or Corolla, or even a nice Camry-based Lexus ES as it is the most reliable luxury car. Something with good safety and not too fast to keep the kid from killing himself. Such as a luxury land yacht, like the old Lincolns and Cadillacs. Tyler Hoover from Hoovies Garage swears by the 1996 Buick Park Avenue as a good, reliable luxury cruiser.

Just came here to comment that thanks to Scottys advice, I just purchased another Chrysler vehicle. So glad I didnt get a boring Toyota. Seriously though, Chrysler in recent years has improved a lot. Scotty is still stuck back in the 90s and 00s when Chryslers were pretty bad. The undeserved bad publicity just drives prices down and gets me a really good car for MUCH less money than any comparable Toyota or Lexus. So thanks again, Scotty

I had a 2011 chevy cruze and it was the worse car I think Ive ever driven. Transmission was terrible and the brake pedal would drop to the floor while driving sometimes. That was honestly one of the scariest moments of my life when im coming to a red light and my brakes just give out. It was also a rental so im sure that definitely had something to do with it, but i just vowed to never own a chevy car again.

Slam v8 pushrod motors all ya want Scotty, with regular maintenance they will go further and last longer than any 4 banger and v6 with turbos, especially with trucks that are designed to haul and tow and are way cheaper to fix, try hauling even a dinky little yard trailer or tent trailer with that Paramecian of a Toyota of yours. My 1999 Chevrolet Silverado LT 4x4 5. 3 has 375, 000 miles and still going.

Hi Scotty, thanks for all you do I have a question that I have seen others ask as well and I will make it more generalizable to answer all the questions I have seen: Should someone who owns a Nissan with a CVT transmission (especially the Versas and Altimas) get rid of the car even if there are no apparent problems, or is it an ok bet to keep one and religiously change the CVT fluid?

the truck hes pointing at in the thumbnail is by far the best pickup of the early 2000s. the 5. 4 triton couldnt compete reliability wise and dodges through trannys left and right. Dont believe me? Look up some listings of them for sale. I commonly find those things selling for over 10k and they are nearly 20 years old Meanwhile people are terrified to buy fords from those years.

Sorry Scotty, but I have to disagree, Ill take a Chrysler over a GM anyday. Ive repaired cars for many years and have always found GMs engineering lacking and their vehicles are the most unreliable of all the American brands I find. My personal favorite is Ford but Chrysler is my number 2 pick and Ive owned many great Chrysler vehicles over the past 40 years too.

Buy an older Chevy with an LS engine. My 03 Tahoe with 209k mi runs perfect and should go beyond 300k mi. A lot of them do, even with the original trans. Cheap Chevy parts. Easy to work on. Great SUV. The later models have more techy crap, but not the high owner satisfaction. All Chrysler products Ive own have had major breakdowns, including the Mitsubishi-engined versions.
